    Manchester's National Football Museum has paid tribute to the "late, great" Blackpool and England full-back Jimmy Armfield on what would have been his 83rd birthday.

    Armfield, who was capped 43 times and was part of the World Cup-winning squad in 1966, died from cancer in January.

  4. Burnley Council apologies over redacted report error

    A redacted Burnley Council report unwittingly made confidential information public, it has been revealed.

    The report, which is due to go before the council’s audit committee next week, details an investigation into a video containing racist chanting being shared on Councillor Alan Hosker’s Facebook page.

    Some information regarding witnesses was supposed to have been redacted to protect their identity, but it was not done properly and the information could easily be seen by anyone copying and pasting the report into word processing software.

    A Burnley Council spokesman said the report was removed from the council’s website as soon as the authority was made aware of the issue.

    The spokesman added Mr Hosker, who represents UKIP, had received an apology and it had been an honest mistake.

  6. Appeal after man attacked with knife

    A man is in hospital in a serious but stable condition after being attacked by a cash machine in Preston.

    Meadow Street, Preston

    The 37-year-old was walking away from the machine at the Post Office on Meadow Street at about 01:00 on Monday when he was approached by three men.

    Two of the men pinned him to the ground while the third kicked, stamped on and stabbed him in the head with a knife.

    The three then fled with about £150 stolen from the victim.

    Det Con Azam Kham said it was a "nasty incident" which left the man with serious injuries.

    Anyone who saw the assault has been asked to call the police.

  10. Students 'planning fight with weapons'

    Students believed to have planned a fight involving weapons are being investigated by police in Padiham.

    Officers said there would be an increased police presence in the area after they were made aware that students from Shuttleworth College were attempting to plan the brawl.

    Lancashire Police is taking steps to identify the ringleaders.
