  4. Lancashire to get its third cathedral

    A church which was closed two years ago has been designated as a cathedral by Pope Francis.

    The Grade II listed St Ignatius Roman Catholic Church in Preston was shut in December 2014. 

    But it reopened as a parish church serving an Indian branch of the Roman Catholic Church. 

    A Vatican statement said the church will have its own bishop, serving a special diocese of Indian Catholics which is one of only three in the world.

  7. Reports of 119 burglaries so far in Lancaster, Morecambe, Blackpool and the Fylde

    There have been reports of 119 burglaries in homes across Lancaster, Morecambe, Blackpool and the Fylde this July, police say. 

    Of these, 54 were because homes were left insecure. 

    Police are now urging householders to make sure they keep their doors and windows secure - especially during warmer weather.

  10. Police release CCTV images of Blackpool assault

    Lancashire police have released CCTV images of several men they want to speak to following an assault in Blackpool.

    A 20-year-old man suffered serious facial injuries when he was attacked after walking close to a fight involving several people in the Talbot Road area.

    The victim was treated at Royal Preston Hospital for fractures to his jaw after the incident, on 10 April.

  12. Darwen man jailed for robbery

    A man has been jailed for robbing a shop in Darwen, stabbing a member of staff in the stomach with a knife.

    Ian Potter was one of two men who carried out the robbery in January.

    He was caught after his DNA was left on a balaclava he was wearing, which was removed by the victim. 

    Potter was jailed for five years and seven months, but the second offender is still wanted by police.
