    Cala Gran Holiday Park where a 12-year-old girl has died is popular with families and tourists who can stay in caravans or camp there.

    The Haven site, open between March and November, is 3.2km (two miles) from Fleetwood beach and 13km (eight miles) from Blackpool's Golden Mile.

    It features an indoor pool, adventure golf and numerous children's clubs as well as evening entertainment.

    Three houses were struck by lightning in morning storms in Lancashire.

    The strikes happened at about 08:00 at properties on Meadowside in Little Hoole.

    No one was injured but there was damage to the buildings.

    Women's Institute members in Lancashire have turned their bras into "hanging bra-skets" in an amusing stunt.

    On display around the village of Barley, near Pendle Hill, they were created as part of a new national sustainable gardening competition run by the WI, which aims to show that plants can be grown almost anywhere.

  10. £10m lottery cash boost for Blackpool mental health project

    A lottery grant of £10m has been awarded to a project in Blackpool which aims to help prevent youngsters developing mental health issues.

    The HeadStart project gets teachers, young people, charities, parents, GPs and councils to work together to help young people develop.  

    Taylor Morrison-Eves, 18, has been closely involved with setting up the project, which targets children aged 10-16.

    He said “One of the main issues that we’ve found is transitioning from primary school to high school, a lot of young people who are transitioning from year six, year seven they get a lot of worries and a lot of anxieties”.

  11. BreakingGirl, 12, dies after being found unresponsive at caravan park

    A 12-year-old girl has died after she was found unresponsive at a caravan park in Fleetwood.

    Paramedics and police were called to Cala Gran Holiday Park at about 21.40 on Monday, Lancashire Police said.

    The girl was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital for treatment but later died, and her death is being treated as "unexplained".

    A police investigation has been launched and a post-mortem examination will take place.

  12. Football: Preston defender on crutches after Oldham knee-injury

    Preston North End boss Simon Grayson says right-back Callum Woods could be out for "months" rather than weeks after injuring his knee in last night's pre-season friendly win at Oldham.

    The 29-year-old left the field on a stretcher following a strong first-half challenge with Oldham's Jamie Reckford.

    Grayson told the club's website: "He's on crutches at the moment and it's probably going to be months rather than weeks; that's an early diagnosis but it didn't look too good."
