  3. Volunteers spend another day at Blackpool DIY SOS site

    Hundreds of volunteers are spending another day helping BBC Children in Need turn a rundown Victorian house in Blackpool into a brand new centre for young carers.

    One of them is Carol Willacey from the Fylde who heard about the appeal for helpers on BBC Radio Lancashire.

    Ever since, she's been playing a valuable role on the project in Newton Drive along with her assistance dog Charlie.

  4. Girl, two, hit by car in Blackburn

    A two-year-old girl has been hit by a car in Blackburn.

    Revidge Road, Blackburn

    The girl is believed to have stepped out into the road when she was struck in Revidge Road just before 17:00 yesterday.

    She was taken to Alder Hey Children's Hospital by air ambulance having suffered facial injuries. Her condition is not believed to be life threatening.

    A duck has been beheaded and another died of shock after a children's centre in Rossendale was broken into. The police are investigating.

  7. Police launch internal investigation after man attacked by police dog

    Greater Manchester Police has launched an internal investigation after a man was attacked by a police dog during a training exercise being held in Lancashire on Friday.

    Dominic Pemberton had just parked his car outside Park Hall hotel when he says the dog escaped through a hole in the fence and attacked him. 

    He has since had two operations at the Royal Preston Hospital.

    Mr Pemberton was initially arrested on suspicion of going equipped to steal on Friday before he was de-arrested and taken to hospital for treatment, police said.    

    The incident has been referred to the force's professional standards branch.

  10. Duck beheaded in Rossendale children's centre break in

    A duck has been beheaded and another died of shock after a children's centre in Rossendale was broken into.

    Staff at Staghills children's centre made the discovery after finding the duck house and chicken coup were damaged over the weekend.

    Head teacher Linda Connelly said: "Over the last few weeks we have had somebody accessing the site every weekend," adding they have had an "amazing" response from the community and children had been drawing how they feel.

  11. DIY SOS: Bigger than the average build

    A project to transform a huge Victorian house in Blackpool into a centre for young carers for BBC Children in Need is proving so challenging a new date has to be set.

    DIY SOS is transforming the property in Newton Drive.

    John Cookson, a volunteer on the project, said: "The first day I looked at it I thought 'this isn’t going to be ready', but just over a week later we’re not so far away now".

  12. Former soldier calls for politicians to be brought to justice

    A former soldier who fought in the Iraq has said "surely senior politicians should be prosecuted" following the following the publication of the Chilcot report in the war.

    Steven McLaughlin, from Lytham, is calling for all those responsible to answer for their actions in the courts.    

    Sir John Chilcot said ill-prepared troops were sent into battle and there were "wholly inadequate" plans for the aftermath.

  14. Football: Burnley and Liverpool agree fixture switch

    Liverpool and Burnley have agreed to switch two Premier League fixtures due to ongoing redevelopment work at Anfield.

    The two sides were due to meet at Anfield on 20 August, but after the Reds asked for more time to complete work on their new £100m project Premier League newcomers Burnley accepted the request to stage the game at Turf Moor. 

    The return game will be played on Merseyside on 12 March. 

  15. Travel: Broken down car causing congestion on M61

    One lane is still closed with queuing traffic on M61 northbound between junction 9, Clayton Brook and the M6 junction 30, because of a broken down vehicle.

    Congestion continues back to M6 junction 8, Chorley.

  16. Appeal after man, 80, dies in Longridge crash

    An 80-year-old man died in a crash in Longridge, prompting police to launch an appeal.

    He had been driving a car that crashed with a van in Preston Road close to the White Bull pub in Alston at about 16:45 on Wednesday.

    The 80-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

    A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and possession of a class A drug. He is currently in custody.

    Sgt Nigel Ralphson said: “We want  to talk to anyone who may have seen either vehicle being driven prior to the collision.”
