  3. Serial sex attacker jailed for 20 years

    John James Carter, of Edgar Road, Dover

    A Dover man has been jailed for 20 years for a series of rapes and sexual assaults on women and children.

    John James Carter, 63, of Edgar Road, was sentenced at Canterbury Crown Court after being convicted of 12 offences following a trial in January.

    He was given 12 years for one rape, four years for another, three years for engaging in sexual activity with a girl and 12 months for making indecent images of a girl, all to run consecutively.

    He was also given a number of concurrent sentences for related indecency offences.

    Police said the offences dated back to 2000 and involved three different victims.

    Carter was put on the sex offenders' register indefinitely.

  5. Police in hunt for red vehicle

    Two teenagers have been seriously hurt in a collision between a car and a taxi near the village of Loxwood, West Sussex.

    It happened at 21:20 BST on Plaistow Road, near Headfoldswood Farm, on Tuesday 10 April.

    Police are trying to trace the driver of a red van or big car which was seen being pulled out of a ditch on the same road earlier that day.

  7. Man sought in connection with Chichester attack

    This man is being sought by detectives investigating the rape of a woman in a park in Chichester.

    Police say the 47-year-old victim met a man in the Nags Head pub in St Pancras on the evening of Saturday 7 April. They chatted for some time before going their separate ways.

    The woman was walking in North Street shortly after midnight when the man appeared again and walked her to Priory Park where the attack took place.

    Officers want to interview the man in the photograph, who's believed to be from the Salisbury area. They're asking anyone who recognises him to get in touch.

  10. Unexploded wartime bomb closes train station

    Explosive experts have been called to Rochester after what is believed to be an unexploded World War Two device was discovered.

    Kent Police was called to the High Street at 11:08 BST and have set up a 100m cordon.

    British Transport Police are also in attendance evacuated Rochester Train Station as it falls within the cordon area.

    The station was reopened at 13:15 after Southeastern was advised it was safe to do so.

    Explosive Ordnance Device Experts from the Ministry of Defence were called in to deal with the device.

  13. Attempted robbery in Eastbourne

    Police are appealing for witnesses after an attempted robbery in Eastbourne.

    At around 21:50 BST on Wednesday the victim, a 61-year-old man from Pevensey, was cycling home from work.

    He stopped near to the bandstand when he was approached by three men and a woman.

    They tried to take his bike but when unsuccessful, they punched him.
