  11. Conservationists chuffed at success

    Bob Dale

    BBC Live reporter

Plans to reintroduce one of the UK's rarest birds to Kent have taken a step forward.

Experts at the Wildwood Trust conservation centre near Canterbury say a breeding pair of choughs have produced the first chick born in the county for 150 years.

The chough, a member of the crow family famed for its acrobatic flying displays, hasn't been seen in Kent's skies for over a century.

In King Lear, Shakespeare described choughs flying in fields near Dover, and they're featured on the coat of arms of both Canterbury City and the University of Kent.
