  3. Watch out for rogue traders

    If you live in the Maidstone area, Kent Police is warning you to watch out for rogue traders.

    Officers are investigating after an elderly woman in Maidstone paid to have her roof restored but was then approached a couple days later to be told it needed to be restored again.

    Rogue traders often cold call at people’s homes in order to offer services or goods. They also sometimes overcharge for unnecessary work, damage property deliberately to get money, leave work unfinished and intimidate people to get money.

  4. Kent gymnast jumps onto the podium

    James Hall - of the Pegasus Gym Club in Maidstone - has won all around bronze at the European Gymnastics Championships in Romania.

    The 21 year-old scored 84.664 to finish behind the gold medallist Oleg Verniaiev of Ukraine, and Russia's Arthur Dalaloyan.

  6. Funeral for murder victim 20 years on

    A funeral has been held for a murdered woman whose remains were found in a reservoir almost 20 years after her disappearance.

    Sandie Bowen, 53, who was originally from Folkestone, went missing from her home in Llandogo, near Monmouth, in August 1997.

    Her husband, Michael Bowen, was convicted of her murder in 1998, but he never revealed the location of her body.

    Her remains were discovered in Wentwood Reservoir, near Newport, earlier this year. 

    An inquest heard her body had been tied to a heavy ceramic sink. The cause of death was not known.

    The funeral for Mrs Bowen took place at Gwent Crematorium, in Cwmbran.

  10. Woman taken to hospital after being hit by train

    A woman has been taken to hospital after she was struck by a train at Margate station this afternoon.

    Officers from British Transport Police and Kent Police were called to the station shortly before 14:30 BST.

    The woman's injuries are believed to be serious. 

    This incident is not being treated as suspicious.

  13. Firefighters called to court

    Firefighters and Kent Police were called to Maidstone Magistrates' Court at 23:30 BST yesterday.

    It was reported that there was a small fire on the ground outside the front doors.

    The cause of the fire is being treated as suspicious and an investigation has been launched.

  16. Battle of Medway commemorations

    There will be 10 days of events to mark the 350th anniversary of the Battle of Medway, it has been announced.

    The battle, in which the Dutch launched a daring assault on the English, is being remembered by a series of events including a retelling of the battle "using flames" and is expected to attract 50,000 people.

  17. Gills midfielder given extra two-game ban

    Bradley Dack will miss Gillingham's final two Sky Bet League One fixtures of the season after the FA confirmed he'll serve an additional two-game ban.

    He's already served a two-match suspension after getting his second red card of the season in the away game against MK Dons on 1 April.

    The increased ban is effective immediately. The club says its appeal against the ban was rejected.
