Southern row: 'We could take more action'

Simon Weller, the Assistant General Secretary of Aslef, has described the relationship between Southern and its staff as "utterly toxic".

He says if the two sides can't resolve the dispute the union could take more strike action.

BreakingChild left with life threatening injuries after dog attack

Firearms officers shot a dog dead after it attacked a child, causing life threatening injuries.

Kent Police was called at 17:26 BST to the incident in the Jenkins Dale area of Chatham.

The South East Coast Ambulance Service and the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance Service also attended and the injured child has been taken to a London hospital in a critical condition.

Two people have been arrested in connection with the incident and they have been taken into custody while enquiries into the incident continue.

Members of the public who may have footage of the incident are asked to contact Kent Police on 101 and not upload it onto social media.

Australian Jason Gillespie is keeping his message simple to the Kent’s cricketers ahead of the new season – show everyone how good you are.

The 41-year-old former fast bowler and ex-Yorkshire coach has linked up with Kent as interim assistant as cover for Allan Donald, who is working towards the qualifications he needs to obtain a visa.

Gillespie says he’s been overwhelmed by the welcome he’s received in the county.

Kent get their County Championship campaign under way on Friday against Gloucestershire at Canterbury.

Migrants rescued from sinking boat

Six Iranian migrants have been rescued from a sinking boat as they attempted to cross the English Channel. 

French authorities received a distress call from the small fishing vessel, which was travelling from Calais to Dover, just after midnight on Tuesday.

Kit removed from ambulances over weight concerns

The South East Coast Ambulance Service is being forced to remove equipment from some of its ambulances, and limit the number of people who can travel in them. 

It's because the vehicles are getting too heavy to be safe on the road. 

Forty five out of a fleet of 300 will only be allowed to transport a maximum of two crew members and a patient and 18 of those ambulances have had kit removed.
