  7. A special constable and her special horse

    A volunteer police officer will start her patrols in New Ash Green on her horse.

    Special Constable (SC) Alaine Benardis and her horse, Jack, will be able to patrol more isolated parts of the community, Kent Police said.

    Alaine responded to a call by for horse owners and riders with access to a horse to consider volunteering as mounted officers with the Special Constabulary.

  8. Chiddingstone's mummy's name is…

    "Irethorru!" 

    Translated as "the eye of Horus is against them”, the name was discovered on the lid of the coffin after three days of multispectral imaging by scientists.

    The mummy's home is Chiddington Castle and it is thought to be 3,000 years old.  

    Maria Esain, who is the curator at the castle, said “Our Ancient Egyptian coffin lid that has been exhibited here for many years has undergone some careful conservation and advanced digital imaging by experts from UCL to determine if it is possible to read the name of the person that would have been interred within it 3,000 years ago."

  11. Large fire in Dartford woodland

    Firefighters are tackling a large fire in woodland in Dartford. 

    About 100 sq m of woodland and undergrowth at Joydens Wood is alight.

    Kent Fire and Rescue said three fire engines were on the scene fighting the blaze.
