The derailed freight train at Lewisham, which caused major delays for Southeastern train passengers this morning, is set to disrupt their journeys home and will affect journeys tomorrow morning.

Southeastern says Network Rail engineers are still at the scene, trying to get the train's two rear wagons back on the rails so they can be moved and any damage assessed.

These shots were taken above the scene.

Braving the derailed freight train disruption: Nearly there...

Bob Dale

BBC Live reporter

A 55-minutes late train did get me to Tonbridge, where I was promised a Hastings train to get me to Tunbridge Wells in seven minutes.

However, that one is now delayed, and a Ramsgate train arrives instead.

At least all the passengers are waiting in good humour.

Planning on heading to Priestfield tonight?

Claire Cottingham

BBC Live reporter

Well, don't...because the game is off. Gills' match against AFC Wimbledon has been postponed because of a frozen pitch.

During the inspection on Monday, the ground was deemed unsafe.

The postponement means that Ady Pennock must wait until Saturday's visit of Shrewsbury Town to take charge of his first home match as Gillingham boss.

The Gills are 17th in League One, six points and six places behind Neal Ardley's Wimbledon.

Stranded at Orpington

Live from Orpington

Bob Dale

BBC Live reporter

I arrived at Orpington to get the 11:26 GMT Tunbridge Wells, to find only two services listed on the departure board - and one of them is delayed.

When the 11:05 GMT to Dover Priory does arrive, I'm told I'll be able to get to Tonbridge, which is at least a bit closer than Orpington.

The station is quiet, with most daytime travellers apparently giving up on whatever plans they may have had for their days out.

Southern Strike latest - analysis

Helen Catt

Political editor, BBC South East

With RMT drivers out on strike, there are questions over whether drivers who are members of Aslef will cross their picket lines.

Meanwhile a Conservative MP is seeking to change the law, to make it harder for unions to call strikes on the railways.

Aslef is not making any official statements all the time that the talks are ongong at the TUC. It's slightly complicated, in that is NOT their union on strike or their dispute.

While it is still about safety and driver operated doors, it is legally a separate action.

Southern says the RMT strike as it stands won't affect its plans for a full service.

As for that bill in Parliament - it's being put this morning by Chris Philp. It's just the first stage though.

He's not expecting any opposition, but it's worth remembering it is a private members bill, and those are very hard to actually get passed into law.

He will face a challenge if he doesn't get Government backing for it, and it's not one that's likely to get much support from other parties.

Severe accident: M25 Kent clockwise
