    A spy novel written by a Kent author in 1980 has become top of the book download charts. 

    Ted Allbeury, from Tunbridge Wells, wrote "The Twentieth Day of January" - a spy novel about how the Soviet Union tried to get their own man elected as US president.

  4. Rally driver hopes to make it to the finish line

    Maidstone rally driver Louise Cook says she may have to resort to selling her 2012 trophy to fund her 2017 World Rally Championship campaign after losing two main sponsors.

    Cook, the only woman in history to win a rallying world championship competing against men, needs to raise £25,000 ahead of her first race in Sweden on 8 February.

  9. Rally driver auctions off her trophy

    Maidstone rally driver Louise Cook has got a race against time on her hands. After losing two sponsors just before the entry deadline for the World Rally Championship Category 3, Louise put her world record holder's trophy on eBay in an attempt to raise funds, selling it for £1,500. 

    She needs to raise £25,000 to start the 2017 season in Sweden on 9 February.

    Ditton’s Barry Hawkins says he’ll need to be at his “very, very best” to beat World Champion Mark Selby when the two meet in the quarter-finals of the Masters at Alexandra Palace this afternoon.

    The number 12 seed earned the showdown with Selby after thrashing Shaun Murphy 6-1 in the first round, but says the task ahead is a formidable one.

    Gillingham have signed former Sparta Prague goalkeeper Tomas Holy on a two and a half year contract, after he impressed on a trial at Priestfield.

    The 6ft 9in stopper has represented the Czech Republic at under 18 level, and has spent the last three years at various different clubs in his home country.

    25 year-old Holy is Ady Pennock’s first signing as Gillingham head coach and is available for Saturday’s game at Sheffield United.

  17. Christmas drink drive campaign results announced

    125 people were arrested in December as part of Kent Police's Christmas drink driving campaign


    The highest number of people were stopped in Maidstone with 16 arrested and 14 charged.

    The force said around 200 people die every year as a direct result of drink driving and many more are injured.
