  2. Human cannonball's boss fined after death

    Human cannonball Matthew Cranch died at the Detling Showground in 2011. The net which was meant to catch him collapsed

    The organiser of the daredevil stunt show, Scott May, and the company, Stunts UK Ltd, admitted failing to ensure the safety of his workers. He was fined and given a 12-month community order.

  5. Border Force seizes 17kg of cocaine

    An attempt to smuggle 17kg of cocaine into the UK hidden amongst cans of cola has been stopped.

    The Border Force seized the drugs when officers searched a Bulgarian freight lorry that had arrived in Dover on a ferry from the Netherlands.  

    The drugs have an estimated value of £680,000 once cut and sold on the streets.

    The driver of the lorry, a 40-year-old man with dual Macedonian/Bulgarian nationality, was arrested and released on bail.

  8. Southern strikes: Economic impact estimated at hundreds of millions

    A study looking at the effect of the ongoing Southern rail strikes has put the loss to the regional economy at around £300m. 

    The University of Chichester based its calculation on commuters who are late for work, miss work or have had to work from home.

  9. RSPCA: 'Four pets are being dumped every hour'

    The RSPCA says a growing number of pets are being abandoned in the South East at Christmas, including these six Staffordshire bull terrier puppies. 

    They've been treated at a rescue centre and it's hoped they'll now go to good homes.

  10. Berlin attack: 'Everyone was crying'

    A couple from Kent have been speaking about how a last minute decision to turn back and look at some Christmas decorations at a Berlin Christmas market saved their lives. 

    Twelve people were killed and 48 others injured when a lorry ploughed into the market just yards from them last night.

  13. Racist hate crimes rise since Brexit

    The number of racist hate crimes reported to police have gone up dramatically in Kent and Sussex since the EU referendum, a BBC study shows. 

    In the first three months following vote in June, recorded incidents rose by 66% in Kent to more than 600. In Sussex there were over 450 reports made to police. 

    Tamanna Miah is a anti-racism campaigner from Sevenoaks, who has been a victim of abuse.

  15. MP champions Medway Maritime Hospital

    The MP for Gillingham and Rainham has asked for the area's hospital be taken out of special measures.

    Rehman Chishti told health minister Philip Dunne that mortality rates at the Medway Maritime were down, as was the length of time patients were staying. 

    The Care Quality Commission is in the process of re-inspecting the hospital and will publish its results in the new year.
