Tobacco selfie smuggler jailed

A Romanian lorry driver, who filmed himself smuggling tobacco into the UK, has been jailed for a year.

Ionut-Bogdan Milea, 30, was stopped by Border Force officers at the UK’s Channel Tunnel controls in Coquelles in September. 

Officers discovered 300 kilos of hand-rolling tobacco, plus around £2,000 cash in a wallet hidden under the dashboard.

Man arrested following rape in Dover

Officers investigating a report of a rape in Dover have made an arrest. 

Kent Police received a report that a girl aged in her late teens was raped by a man in a field near the A258 on 18 September 2016. 

A 28-year-old man from Dover has been arrested and released on police bail until 23 December.

Second man arrested after Ashford shooting

A 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a shooting in Ashford which left two men with gunshot wounds in the Marten Park area.

Both men were airlifted to hospital after the incident, one of the men has been discharged from hospital and the other is expected to be discharged soon.

A 45-year-old man was arrested yesterday on suspicion of attempted murder. Both men remain in police custody.

Two men found with gunshot wounds in High Halden

Two men were airlifted to hospital after being found seriously injured with gunshot wounds.

The men were discovered in the Marten Park area of High Halden, near Ashford, at about 11:15 GMT on Thursday, Kent Police said. Read more here.
