  3. New arrests in youth offending centre investigation

    Five people have been arrested by police investigating allegations of abuse at the Medway Secure Training Centre. 

    Three men and two women are being questioned on suspicion of misconduct in public office. 

    Five others arrested in January remain on police bail.

    An investigation began at the unit, which was being run by security firm G4S, after secret filming by the BBC's Panorama.

  7. Grammar school academy plans called off

    The headteacher at Simon Langton Girls Grammar School announced last night that controversial plans to pursue academy status in conjunction with a neighbouring school have been dropped.

    This means a meeting that had been planned with parents and governors tonight has been called off.

  8. Felled plant 'only flowers every 80 years'

    Here's a video of the American Agave plant before it was felled. The plant only flowers every 80 years.

  9. Greenhouse-busting plant removed

    Work began earlier on removing a giant American Agave plant from the Italiante greenhouse in Ramsgate after it broke through the roof.

    Scaffolding has been put up and the 30ft plant will be removed section by section.

  12. UPDATE: Armed police in Northfleet

    Armed response officers were deployed in Painters Ash Lane at 19:30 BST yesterday after a robbery victim reported seeing what she thought was a handgun. 

    A man in his 30s was arrested shortly afterwards in connection with the incident and is now in police custody.

  15. 'I just want to do normal things'

    Sixteen-year-old Kelly Turner, from Dover, has already undergone nine rounds of chemotherapy.

    Now she's been told the cancer she's been diagnosed with is so rare, it can't be operated on in this country.

  16. Migrants found in boat off coast

    Three migrants, suspected of being Iranian, were found by the Coastguard in a small boat off the Kent coast.

    The Home Office told the BBC the three people, wearing life jackets, were spotted by a ferry at 05:23 BST on Tuesday.

    They were taken to Dover to be "processed". Read more here.

  19. Today's travel in Kent

    BBC Travel

    Buses are replacing trains this morning on Southern services between Tonbridge and Redhill. 

    The line was closed yesterday because of heavy rain and Southern said tunnels on the line between these stations are still flooded. 

    They don't expect the line to re-open until the end of the day and tickets are being accepted on other services.
