Watch: Humberside has largest reduction in child arrests

Sarah Walton

Reporter, BBC Look North

The number of children arrested by Humberside Police has fallen by 77% in the last five years, the largest fall for any police force in England and Wales.

Figures from the Howard League for Penal Reform show a drop from nearly 6,000 in 2010 to under 1,500 in 2014.

The group says reducing arrests improves children's life chances.

Rob Preece is from the group.

Listen: Parents feel pressured to say what their child's nationality is

Carl Wheatley

There are concerns that some parents in our region are under the impression they have to tell their school what nationality their children are, but the questions are actually optional.

'Defend Digital Me' is just one of the groups who've shown concern. Jen Persson spoke to us on the programme.

The Department for Education says it's asked schools to gather the data so it can take steps to drive up educational standards.

She said in a statement: "I really did not expect or feel deserving of such interest and kindness."

Concerns over nationality questions at schools

Lizzie Rose

BBC Radio Humberside

There are concerns that parents in our region aren't being given the full facts when it comes to being asked to declare their nationality to their child's school.

The National Union of Teachers (NUT) says it's concerned some schools are giving parents the impression they have to tell the school where they are from, when providing the information is optional.

Acting on instructions from the Department for Education, schools are contacting parents and asking for the details.

These parents at an East Riding primary school gave us their thoughts on the issue.
