Compensation for workers 'blacklisted' by construction companies

Sarah Corker

BBC Look North

Ten workers from East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire have received a total of £420,000 in compensation as part of a settlement with construction companies over blacklisting claims.

It’s the largest payout for any area and the settlements effectively bring to an end to a High Court case, brought forward by three trade unions.

While the firms accept their part in a vetting system that was used to discriminate against certain workers on construction sites – they have always denied “blacklisting” as that implies an automatic exclusion from sites based on details being on a list.
