  10. 'Final nail in the coffin' for White Rose carbon capture storage project

    Planning permission to build a carbon capture and storage plant near Goole has been refused after the government said there was not enough funding for the project.

    It was seen by some as a way of making the use of coal-fired power stations more environmentally friendly.

    Energy company Drax pulled out of the scheme last year and it's now difficult to see where the White Rose project goes from here.

  11. East Yorkshire school placed into 'special measures' by Ofsted

    Driffield School and sixth form has been rated as inadequate by Ofsted and placed into special measures. 

    The school inspection body criticised a number of areas, including the quality of teaching and the school's leadership and management.

    Dave McCready, who is the headteacher of Wolfreton School, has taken interim charge.

  12. Siemens recruits 90% of workers at new plant from Hull and East Yorkshire

    It's been revealed around 90% of people who have got jobs at the new Siemens wind turbine manufacturing plant in Hull are from the Humber region.

    Magda, who lives in Hull, has spent a year with her family in Aalborg Denmark to train for her new role and will return once the plant has opened.

  16. Beverley's Kyle Edmund wins first round match in Bucharest

    British number three Kyle Edmund progressed to the second round of the Nastase Tiriac Trophy with victory over Lukas Rosol in Bucharest.

    The 21-year-old, from East Yorkshire, beat his 30-year-old Czech opponent in straight sets 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (7-5).

  19. Mum-to-be from Hull upset by complaints over pregnant Facebook pictures

    Catherine Kelsey, a mum to be from Hull, posted photos of her pregnancy on Facebook. They were taken by a professional photographer.

    She says she's been left upset after the photos were reported to Facebook for being inappropriate. The social media site agreed with Catherine and the photos have been allowed to stay on her profile.

  20. Scheme to reduce flooding in East Hull launched

    Work on a scheme to reduce flooding in East Hull starts today. Parts of the city were hit by flash floods last week after heavy downpours. 

    Hull City Council is working with Yorkshire Water to build a water storage basin that will hold surface water and reduce pressure on the sewage system.
