  4. Police and Crime Commissioner candidates announced

    Four people have been nominated for election as the Police and Crime Commissioner for the Humberside force area. 

    Their role includes appointing chief constables and holding them to account.

    Elections are held every 4 years. The candidates in this contest are Conservative Matthew Grove, Liberal Democrat Denis Healy, Keith Hunter for Labour and UKIP's Mike Whitehead.

    The elections take place on Thursday the 5th of May - the same day as local Government elections in Hull and North East Lincolnshire.

  5. Gas leak in Lincoln affects trains

    Trains that go through Lincoln will be diverted or delayed this afternoon after a digger burst a gas pipe in the city. It's also causing severe road congestion. 

    Worth checking if you are planning travelling near Lincoln later today.

  6. Watch: Business minister says work is taking place to secure steel in Scunthorpe

    On last night's Question Time the business minister Anna Soubry told the panel that work is taking place behind the scenes to secure the future of steel in Scunthorpe.

    Ms Soubry said details of a deal are commercially sensitive but the government is doing all it can.

    Staff at the site in Scunthorpe are awaiting news of a potential buyout of the town's steelworks.

    A man has suffered life changing injuries after his car crashed head on with a truck in East Yorkshire. 

    It happened this morning at Carnaby. Two other cars were also involved. 

  10. Business charge to sell alcohol in early hours of the morning on hold in East Yorkshire

    Plans to introduce a late night levy on businesses in East Yorkshire have been put on hold. 

    The Council had been considering whether bars and clubs which serve alcohol after 1 a.m. should pay up to 4 thousand pounds toward policing. 

    Humberside Police said they felt the levy was not needed as there was no demand for extra policing.

    The East Riding of Yorkshire Council say they will now wait until the Home Office has clarified their position.

  11. Sport: Injury update from Steve Bruce ahead of Hull City weekend match

    Steve Bruce says it's unlikely Nick Powell will play again for Hull City.

    He has a thigh injury.

    Sam Clucas has a knee injury and there's concern over Aluko's achilles.

    Both are doubts for the match tonight.

  12. Tour de Yorkshire artist unveiled

    One of Yorkshire’s rising stars of the art world has been unveiled as the official artist for the Tour de Yorkshire.

    Richmond-based pastel artist Lucy Pittaway has been chosen as the official artist for this year’s race, which returns to the county from 29th April to 1st May.

    The race starts in Beverley.

  13. Listen: Yorkshire holidaymaker tells of being scammed

    It's so easy to book anything online these days isn't it? Hotels, airline tickets, holidays all at the click of a mouse. 

    Well according to the Travel Agent Association ABTA, online fraud is on the rise, with many people finding they aren't going anywhere at all.

    Jilly Roberts from Yorkshire told the BBC her story about being scammed a couple of years ago.

    The Leader of the Green Party in Hull has resigned after failing to submit any candidates for this years local elections in May.

    Hull City Council didn't received any nominations from the Green Party.

    In a statement, the groups leader Martin Deane said he took his eye off the ball and missed the legal deadline for nominations of candidates.

    There will be no Green Party on the ballot papers in Hull this year.

    Quote Message: I can only offer my apologies to the Party, to Green members, supporters and voters at this missed opportunity to stand and perhaps win our first seat.My particular apologies to all our prospective candidates.     Hull City Council has confirmed that no local election nominations were received from The Green Party.

    That's despite claims that they would stand across the city.

    The local elections take place on Thursday 5 May.

  17. Police need help identifying woman found on beach near Withernsea

    Humberside Police are still trying to identify a woman found dead on the beach in Holmpton, Withernsea yesterday.

    Her death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner, however officers are appealing for the public’s help in identifying her.

    The woman is described as white, age between 50 and 60 with blue eyes. She was wearing a purple coat, maroon leggings, blue patterned top and dusky pick cardigan.

    Anyone who thinks they may know the identity of the woman are urged to call 101 quoting log 140 of 07/04/16.
