EU regulations could potentially stop Bridlington's proposed new harbour and marina getting the subsidies it would need to make it viable.

That's what a report going before East Riding councillors next week says.

It also suggests any state aid would have to be approved by the EU Commission and the British Government.

    Chris Arundel

    Reporter, East Yorkshire

    Bridlington Harbour

Bridlington's proposed new marina and Harbour wouldn't be viable without State Aid according to a report going before the East Riding Cabinet next week.

EU regulations normally prevent governments providing State Aid to businesses, but it might be possible to provide aid in the case of like a a small port like Bridlington.

Generally the EU opposed State Aid on the grounds that it skews the market against firms not receiving State Aid.
