  10. Footbridge appeal in hunt for missing student

    Allen Cook

    BBC News

Police searching for a university student who disappeared during Freshers' Week are appealing for people who may have used a footbridge at the time he went missing to come forward.

    Police searching river

They've continued their search today along the River Severn in Worcester, around the area where Thomas Jones, 18 was last seen, early on Wednesday morning.

Officers say the Sabrina Footbridge, a crossing between Worcester Racecourse and Hylton Road, is a natural route for students heading between the town centre and the university.

Because of that, they're calling on anyone who used the bridge between 03:30 and 04:00 on Wednesday to come forward.

  11. Posters handed out in search for missing student

    Alistair Binney

    Reporter, BBC Hereford & Worcester

Friends of a missing university student are putting up hundreds of posters as the search for him continues.

    Thomas Jones

His family and police say Thomas Jones' disappearance in Worcester is "out of character" and he's not been seen since Wednesday.

Specialist divers have been brought in by West Mercia Police as they check the River Severn by Worcester Rowing Club.

A group of his friends say they're handing out the posters and flyers this afternoon as they want to raise awareness of his disappearance.

Quote Message: It is completely out of character because I've been out with him in the past and he's had a few drinks here and there but he's always with people, people know where he is, he's never on his own so, for a situation like this to happen, is just completely out of the blue, which is why we're worried from Harley Hetherington Friend of Thomas Jones

  12. Residents warned to expect council tax rise

    Tom Edwards

    Reporter, BBC Hereford & Worcester

Taxpayers across Worcestershire are being warned to expect another council tax rise next year due to serious budget problems at the county council.

    A council tax bill

About £17m needs to be saved by March and at least another £8m in the 2019/20 financial year, with the authority saying as many jobs as possible are set to be 'deleted' once staff leave.

The council's also admitted there's a risk of bus services being scaled back while libraries are to be placed under review.

The authority says it can't guarantee there won't be more increases in council tax in the future.

Quote Message: This year we've had to put it [council tax] up by nearly 5%, of which three of that 5% increase has gone to support adult social care. This is part of a national problem really, in terms of the pressure, ageing population, more people with disabilities needing help from Councillor Simon Geraghty Leader, Worcestershire County Council
