    A search of the River Severn in Worcester will resume this morning, for missing student Thomas Jones.

  6. 'Iconic buildings' to be lit up

    Buildings in Evesham are going to be lit up later this year as part of a scheme aimed at bringing in more visitors.

    Wychavon District Council says the Enlighten project will start off illuminating places including the bell tower, the war memorial in Abbey Park and the Almonry Museum.

    The £112,000 budget's come from councils and the Bell Tower Appeal and will see the war memorial lights switched on on 11 November.

    The parents of a university student who's gone missing in Worcester during freshers' week say they spoke to him on the phone at around the time he was last seen.

    Police teams have been searching the River Severn by the city's racecourse for 18-year-old Thomas Jones, who was last seen in the area in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

    West Mercia Police says officers are getting very concerned about his welfare.

  11. BreakingPolice teams search river for missing student

    Police teams have started a search of the River Severn, near Worcester Racecourse, for a student who went missing during freshers' week.

    Thomas Jones, 18, was last seen in the early hours of Wednesday morning, said West Mercia Police.

    Det Insp Tony Garner from West Mercia Police said: "Given that he was last seen close to the river, we are growing increasingly concerned for his welfare.

    "This is extremely out of character for Thomas and he is new to the area, having only moved to Worcester on Sunday to commence university."

  12. Specialist gear needed to clear fallen tree

    Specialist equipment's being used to clear a road in Worcestershire after a tree came down during the strong winds from Storm Ali.

    Worcestershire County Council says it came down yesterday on Church Lane, Martley, near to St Peter Church.

    High winds and rain are expected from 18:00 tonight, with a further weather warning for wind issued from 21:00 on Sunday to 09:00 Monday.

  13. Worcestershire awarded civic reception

    Worcestershire have been awarded a civic reception for their achievement in winning the T20 Blast at Edgbaston on Saturday night.

    It will take place at the Guildhall, Worcester on Thursday, 27 September.

    Worcestershire had never previously appeared at Finals Day - but beat both Lancashire and Sussex on the way to their first trophy since 2007

    The T20 trophy will be on public display from 15:00 onwards. The civic reception for invited guests will take place upstairs - but the downstairs will remain open for supporters to mingle with players.

    Worcestershire may still be involved in County Championship action that day, which is the scheduled final day of their final game, at home to Yorkshire at New Road.

  14. Lane shut for M5 resurfacing after fire

    A lane's being kept shut on the M5 for resurfacing work after the earlier vehicle fire.

    Highways England says the blaze has been tackled at J5 near Droitwich and the closure's on the northbound side.

  15. England pick Te'o & Schonert

    Two Worcester Warriors players Ben Te'o and Nick Schonert have been named in the England training squad for a three-day training camp starting on Sunday in Bristol.

    Centre Teo (pictured), who has yet to play for Worcester this season, has been named in the squad of 36 players.

    Uncapped Nick Schonert, who had to pull out of England's end-of-season tour to Argentina in 2017 with a hand injury, then just missed out on the tour to South Africa this summer, is also back in favour.

  16. Delays on M5 after crash and fire
