    Work has begun on transforming Redditch United’s Valley Stadium ground as the Southern League Premier Division club looks to completely overhaul its facilities.

    Central to this redevelopment will be the installation of a third-generation 3G pitch but other areas of the ground will also have a major facelift.

  3. Elderly targetted by 'Scotland Yard' phone fruad

    Police are warning people to be on their guard after two separate incidents of phone fraud targetting the elderly.

    West Mercia Police say an elderly man in Evesham was conned out of "a large sum of money" yesterday after he was rung up by someone claiming to be from Scotland Yard.

    Today a similar fraud involving an elderly couple in Pershore was foiled by a family member.

    Ten similar incidents have happened in neighbouring Warwickshire.

  4. Cricket: Worcestershire forced to settle for the draw

    It's all over at New Road.

    After a blistering start to the match from Worcestershire, today Sussex managed to harass and eventually overtake their hosts' first innings total - finishing with 411-9. 

    It means Worcestershire have to settle for a draw, despite forcing Sussex to follow-on after their first innings.

    In the end Ollie Robinson (29*) and Stu Whittingham play out the final six overs before the teams shake hands - 13 points for Worcestershire, nine for Sussex.

    Hereford FC players and staff have been to Wembley ahead of their FA Vase final on Sunday.

    They've also got to stand tantilisingly close to the trophy they hope to win.

  7. Animal activists raging over Hereford bull parade at Wembley

    Animal rights activists are calling to stop a "cruel" plan to parade a bull at Wembley ahead of the FA Vase final. 

    The FA granted permission for Hereford FC's mascot, Ronaldo the bull, to walk the stadium before the Morpeth Town game on 22 May.

    But campaign group Peta wrote to the FA's boss "to stop Ronaldo from having to endure the stress and misery of being paraded in front of thousands of screaming fans." 

    The FA tweeted: "Ronaldo is coming Wembley."

  9. Historic outdoor spa pool to open for the summer

    The historic outdoor Lido swimming pool in Droitwich Spa will open on 28 May, Wychavon District Council says.

    The saltwater pool was built in the 1930s and reopened in 2007 after being derelict for six years following a local campaign.

  10. Ronaldo the bull's safety 'at the forefront of Wembley parade plan'

    The safety of Hereford FC's mascot, Ronaldo the bull, was at the forefront of a plan to parade him at Wembley stadium, said the club. 

    Fans will be asked to respect the animal's dignity when he is shown ahead of the FA vase final against Morpeth Town on Sunday.

    Hereford FC said Ronaldo was regularly paraded in front of thousands-strong crowds and the three-hour journey would be "nothing unusual to him".

    He would have an acclimatisation period when he arrived at the stadium and a vet would be with him at all times, a spokesman said.

  11. Worcester City Council coalition deal 'heavy-hearted'

    The Labour and Green parties have joined forces to take control of Worcester City Council in a "heavy-hearted" coalition deal.

    The Conservatives lost their majority in the local elections on 5 May, leaving no party in overall control.

    Conservative leader Marc Bayliss urged the Green to "remain true to their word" and "not back a Labour minority".

    However, the Greens eventually backed Labour, with the party's Louis Stephen saying the group "tried our hardest to get an all-party agreement".

    "It is with a heavy heart that we did what we did," he said.

  12. Warriors' Channel Island pre-season game

    Worcester Warriors will travel to Jersey for a pre-season match on Saturday, 20 August.

    The match is Warriors’ second confirmed pre-season game and will take place six days before the squad travel to Munster.

  15. Careers talks 'boost future earnings' - research

    Careers education given to pupils in secondary school can be linked to higher earnings in adult life, according to researchers.

    A study published in the Journal of Education and Work suggests that better-informed teenagers are likely to make more advantageous career choices.


    It measures the earnings benefit as an extra £2,000 per year for every six careers sessions when aged 14 to 15.

    Researchers used the British Cohort Study tracking 17,000 people.

  16. Six players commit to City for next season

    Six players have pledged their future to Worcester City for next season, the club has announced.

    New deals have been agreed with Lee Hughes, Kyle Perry, Danny Jackman (pictured), Connor Gater, Jamie Smith and Dean Waldron.
