  2. Children's hospital therapy dog 'pawtraits' launched

    Patients at a children's hospital have been given hundreds of drawings of their therapy dogs while the animals are unable to visit wards during the coronavirus pandemic.

    Therapy dog handler at Southampton Children's Hospital, Lyndsey Uglow, came up with the idea and has delivered 1,500 drawings of the golden retrievers - Leo, Milo, Quinn, Archie, Jessie, Hattie and Pollyanna - for patients to colour in.

    The "pawtraits", by illustrator Daniel Howarth, are also part of a #goldenhugsforall social media campaign that encourages children at home to get involved too.

    Joyce Stebbings, youth and play services manager at the hospital, said the dogs were "such an important part of life in the children’s hospital and not having them around is really tough for patients and our staff".

  3. Dorset and Hampshire beaches 'empty'

    Images of deserted beaches have been shared by police who have thanked members of the public for following social distancing guidelines.

    Hampshire Constabulary said officers in Hayling Island, Portsmouth, had covered a "significant amount of beach" with "barely anyone seen".

  4. Unlicenced driver stopped on lockdown trip with paving slabs

    A motorist flouted the coronavirus lockdown to pick up paving slabs while driving without a licence.

    Hampshire Police said the driver was travelling from London to Bournemouth and faced a "very long walk home" from Ower, in the New Forest, where they were stopped.

    The latest number of cases of Covid-19 has been confirmed as 356 in Oxfordshire.

    The figure for Oxfordshire is up by 41 cases. Twenty-four hours earlier there were 315 cases in Oxfordshire.

  11. Police condemn 'bad trip' naked party-goer

    A party-goer who ended up naked in a road after taking drugs has been labelled "selfish" after three ambulances had to attend.

    Hampshire Police said the reveler had "dropped acid and suffered a bad trip" in Horndean.

    The force, which is investigating the matter under new Covid-19 powers, described it as a "selfish and avoidable deployment" during the pandemic, when people should be socially distancing.

  15. Oxford PPE appeal for NHS staff raises £6K

    An appeal set up to provide NHS staff in Oxford with personal protective equipment (PPE) has raised more than £6,000.

    The government has faced criticism about the lack of PPE for doctors and nurses on the frontline.

    Salma Chaudury, who teaches medical students at the University of Oxford, set up the online appeal.

    "If we can help fewer doctors and nurses become sick it means that we've got more staff available to care for patients who are critical and really need our help," she said.

  16. Dorset hotels reopen as hospital discharge facilities

    Two hotels in Dorset are to be used as discharge facilities in a bid to ease pressure on hospitals during the coronavirus pandemic.

    Weymouth's Best Western Hotel and The Grange at Obourne, near Sherborne, will be set up as NHS bases for "low risk patients" who cannot go directly back to their own homes after recovering from treatment, including operations.

    John and Jenny Fletcher, who run The Grange, said they would house about 12 patients. They added the move meant they could bring some of their staff members back to work.

    Health Secretary Matt Hancock previously said empty hotels across the country would help ease the pressure on hospitals that are filling up with patients.
