  7. Name a garden village and impress your friends

If you could give a new garden village a name, what would you pick?

West Oxfordshire District Council has invited residents to put forward their own ideas for the development due to be built north of the A40 near Eynsham.

Jeff Haine, cabinet member for strategic planning, said: "The name is a key part of the planning process as it gives the village an identity and a real sense of place."

The winner gets two adult annual passes for entry to Blenheim Palace, and obviously the lifetime knowledge that they named a village, which is not a common boast.

Just don't call it Boaty McBoatface - that's taken.

  8. Children in care in Dorset 'not having health checks in time'

    Local Democracy Reporting Service

Children being cared for by Dorset Council are often not getting a health check within the 20 days the law says they should.

Councillors are being told that the lack of an initial health assessment means that carers are sometimes trying to look after them without a full picture of their needs, which can affect the way they are supported.

A report to the Dorset Council corporate parenting board says that the delays are sometimes caused by social workers not providing health services with timely notification and consent and also by initial appointments being declined, or not attending on the day.

Only around half of the current cases are within the timeframe.

The current figures show 52.9% meeting the 20-day deadline, and 56.5% in 2017/18. The target is to have at least 95% completed on time.

  15. Closure plans for NHS centre in Bournemouth

    Local Democracy Reporting Service

An NHS centre in Bournemouth could be closed as part of a planned overhaul of mental health rehabilitation services across the county.

Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group is carrying out a joint review with Dorset HealthCare trust following concerns that existing services were "not set up in the right way".

A new report says a new more "community-focused" approach would increase the number of beds available in the county and save hundreds of thousands of pounds.

The preferred option includes plans to close one of the three inpatient units in Dorset - Nightingale Court in Alumhurst Road - in favour of increasing community beds elsewhere.

Provision has also made for a new 14-bed high dependency unit and 20 new beds in supported housing which would be provided jointly between the NHS and community organisations.
