A goldfinch has been rescued by RSPCA officers after it became tangled in thread and trapped in a tree in Poole.

The charity was called to Serpentine Road on 26 June after members of the public spotted the bird in distress.

Animal welfare officer Jo Blackburn said: "He was stuck around 25ft high and was dangling from the branch.

“The thread that was wrapped around his leg was being used to build a nest as we found a very small partially constructed nest when I cut him free.

“When I returned to the tree there was another goldfinch there waiting and I suspect it was his mate. As soon as I released him they flew around together before flying off as a pair. It was lovely to see."
