  2. Woman attacked by stranger in cemetery

    Cemetery off Quibo Lane in Weymouth

    A woman was grabbed and wrestled to the ground in a cemetery in Weymouth.

    The woman in her 50s was walking from the crematorium through the cemetery in Quibo Lane between 04:00 and 05:00 BST on Saturday when she was approached from behind by a man she did not know.

    During the struggle, the woman screamed and kicked the man and he ran away.

    She was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries but they were not thought to be serious.

    The man is described as being in his 20s or 30s, clean shaven with dark hair that was shaved on the side and longer on top. He had a tanned complexion and was wearing a light-coloured hooded top, dark-coloured jeans and grey trainers.

  3. Priest's House Museum closes for refurb

    Wimborne's Priest's House Museum has closed for a £700,000 restoration project.

    A new entrance to the museum and a new combined visitor reception, shop, tourist information centre and information point will be created, while a new platform lift and ramps will allow access to the upper galleries for all for the first time.

    The oldest part of the house dates back to the Elizabethan period and the museum tells the story of the building and the people who have lived in the house, Wimborne and East Dorset over the centuries.

    The work is due to be completed by spring 2020.

  4. Car appeal after arcade staff tied up in £11k raid

    Police investigating a burglary at a Southampton amusement arcade in which a member of staff was tied up have released a picture of a car they want to trace.

    Golden Touch Amusements in Above Bar Street was raided at about 06:50 BST on Tuesday 18 June and a lone staff member was tied up while £11,000 was stolen from the safe.

    Hampshire Constabulary is appealing for help in tracing the owner of a blue Honda Integra with blacked-out windows seen nearby.

    CCTV showing a man wearing a camouflage-pattern coat has also been re-issued.

  5. Two men injured after assault by moped driver and pillion passenger in Southsea

    Two men suffered head injuries after being assaulted by a moped rider and pillion passenger is Southsea.

    Albert Road at junction with Hereford Road

    The moped, which is described as a red and silver Gilera Runner 124 cc, was being ridden along the pavement in Albert Road, close to the junction with Hereford Road (pictured), on Thursday between 00:00 and 00:20 BST.

    A 51-year-old man pushed out at the bike which caused the rider to come to a stop. The man was then assaulted and when a second man, aged 44, tried to intervene he was also assaulted.

    The suspects are described as being aged between 17 and 25.

    One was white, of skinny build and wearing a dark blue racing helmet. The other was black, of muscular build, with short cropped hair and wearing a sky blue polo top, dark blue jeans and a gold wristwatch.

  6. Empty car crashes into toy shop window

    An empty car has crashed into a toy shop window in the New Forest.

    The empty Citroen car rolled 50 yards down and across the High Street in Lymington shortly after 15:00, according to witnesses, coming to a halt in Figgures toy shop shortly.

    No-one is thought to have been hurt.

  10. US coach Jill Ellis talks about Portsmouth upbringing

    US women's football coach Jill Ellis has been talking about her Hampshire roots, ahead of her side taking on England in the World Cup semi-final.

    The 52-year-old was brought up in Portsmouth before her family moved to the states in her teens.

    Ellis said: "I was a Pompey lass. I can't say I always supported Pompey - I've been a Man Utd fan since I was seven. But I have a lot of fond memories.

    "My whole British culture and growing up is still with me, for sure. I'm very grateful for that because I don't think, had I grown up in another country, the passion for football would be where it is."

  12. Celebrities launch sex offence anonymity campaign

    DJ Paul Gambaccini is warning of a "false allegation crisis", as he joins other well-known figures launching a petition calling for anonymity for sexual offence suspects.

    Sir Cliff Richard is also backing the campaign. His Berkshire home was raided by South Yorkshire Police in 2014 as part of an investigation into an allegation of historical sexual assault. The BBC was tipped off, named Sir Cliff and filmed the operation using a helicopter.

    In the end, Sir Cliff was not arrested or charged with any offence and he later successfully sued the BBC for breach of privacy.

    Currently, alleged victims of sexual offences receive lifelong anonymity, but suspects can be named at any time.

  13. New sponsor for Cowes Week fireworks

    The annual Cowes Week fireworks finale is to be sponsored by Red Funnel Ferries, after previous sponsor Lendy went into administration.

    Lendy which organised crowdfunded loans through its website which were used to fund property development, went into administration in May. It had been the regatta's main title sponsor and had supported the popular fireworks display.

    Red Funnel said it would support the event to mark the 50th anniversary of high-speed crossings of the Solent.

    ‘Toby the reading dog’ was named the island's Dog of the Year at the inaugural Wightlink Woof Awards

    The bearded collie has helped raise funds for charity and served as a Pets As Therapy (PAT) dog. The 15-year-old now goes into Ryde Academy once a week to listen to children read and help boost their confidence.
