  2. Head lice 'could solve neglect cases'

Cases of neglect could be solved by analysing the head lice and nits of victims, researchers suggest.

Scientists said assessing the "biology" of lice and the amount and position of their eggs, unearthed details including how long a victim had been neglected.

The researchers examined the hair of an elderly woman with lice who died in 2016 after being seriously neglected.

The University of Reading academics said the discovery bettered chances of "uncovering the truth" in cases.

  4. Plans put forward for 22-storey hotel and offices

Plans for a 22-storey building housing a hotel and offices have put forward to replace a derelict Reading town centre site.

Station Road Dev Co Ltd has proposed £30m redevelopment - called "No.1 Reading" - of the former Norwich Union building at 29-35 Station Road, in the town.

The plans submitted to Reading Borough Council include a 135-room hotel, five floors of office space, a restaurant, and a shop on the ground floor, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

Concerns have been raised over the height of the development.

  6. Arts centre to get council funding

An arts centre based in a country house is set to receive council funding support after years of cash cuts.

Bracknell's South Hill Park could be loaned £68,000, to be repaid over 20 years at six-monthly intervals, with no interest, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

A report from the council's budget papers documented £244,000 of cuts to 2019.

The loan would allow South Hill Park to finish the redevelopment of a function room to "enable greater commercial income generation, thereby supporting their improved financial self-sufficiency".

The executive member for culture, resources and public protection, Iain McCracken, is set to approve the loan by 15 January 2019.
