  2. Oxford research finds doctors reluctant to recommend e-cigs

More than one in four doctors are reluctant to recommend e-cigarettes to smokers despite them being given the nod by health officials, according to new Oxford research.

Researchers at Oxford Brookes University said health workers need more smoking cessation training and there needs to be better local resources to help doctors guide their patients.

A poll of 500 UK medics including GPs, cancer doctors and nurses found that 29% said they would not recommend e-cigarettes to cancer patients who smoke.

This is despite Public Health England previously backing the devices, saying they are a useful aid for quitting.

  3. Missing certificates in Oxfordshire Carillion projects

Building projects carried out by Carillion in Oxfordshire have missing certificates and fire safety issues, a new report has revealed.

It shows Oxfordshire County Council spent £123m on a total of 602 projects with the firm, which went into liquidation in January.

Sutton Courtenay Primary School saw workmen down tools when Carillion collapsed and headteacher Rachel Hornsey said after delays children are now in new classrooms, but there are still issues.

The council said it can't say what happened with Carillion would never happen again, but added it was prepared if another company providing services did collapse.
