  2. Retired Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service dog Inca dies

    Along with another Labrador called Saxon, Inca attended more than 500 operational incidents before retiring from the service in 2015.

    Fire investigation dogs are trained to work out how fires started by using their sense of smell.

    Inca and Saxon's work included convicting a criminal in 2010 after petrol was poured through a letterbox in Gosport before being set alight.

  3. Oxfordshire crash leaves driver dead and passenger critical

    A man in his 70s has died and a woman in her 60s is in a critical condition after a three-vehicle crash in Oxfordshire.

    Thames Valley Police said the accident happened on the A415 near Ducklington on Thursday at about 10:20 BST.

    It involved a white Ford Transit, red Peugeot 107 and silver Mercedes Vito.

    The Transit driver, a 37-year-old Oxford man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by driving without due care while unfit through drink or drugs.

    Police said the van was travelling north on the A415 when it crossed on to the opposite side of the road and hit the Peugeot 107.

    The Mercedes Vito was travelling behind the Peugeot and was also hit by the Transit, a spokesman added.

  5. Layla Moran appointed to Public Accounts Committee

    Layla Moran, the Liberal Democrat MP for Oxford West and Abingdon, has been appointed to the House of Commons’ Public Accounts Committee.

    Ms Moran said that it "carries out crucial work holding government and our public services to account".

    She added: "This committee has highlighted many critical failures in government and this mismanagement has had a direct and sometimes distressing impact on people’s lives.

    "Taxpayers should be confident that public money is being spent wisely, fairly and effectively. It is why the Public Accounts Committee is so important and it will be a huge honour to be part of its work."

  6. Arrest after elderly woman tied up and robbed

    Police investigating an alleged robbery where a woman in her 80s was tied up in her own home have arrested a man.

    Cash and jewellery were taken from the house in the Oak Avenue area of Christchurch on Wednesday 1 February.

    Dorset Police said a 38-year-old man from Christchurch had been arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary and released while investigations continue.

  7. Woman charged with causing death of daughter in crash

    Thickthorn Cross

    A mother has been charged with causing the death of her three-year-old daughter while drink-driving in a crash in Dorset.

    The collision between a Transit van and a Vauxhall Astra happened on the A354 at Thickthorn Cross near Blandford early on 24 August.

    The woman, aged 34 and from Shaftesbury, and the little girl were flown by air ambulance to Southampton General Hospital where the girl died the following day.

    The driver of the van also needed hospital treatment.

    Police said a 34-year-old woman from Shaftesbury was charged yesterday with causing death by death by dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving and causing death by careless driving while over the prescribed alcohol limit.

    She is due to appear at Bournemouth Crown Court on 5 October.

  8. BreakingDoctor charged over hospital sex assaults

    A doctor has been charged with two sexual assaults in hospitals in Oxford and Cambridge.

    Anandagopal Srinivasan, aged 26, of Sandfield Road, Oxford, is charged over an alleged sex assault at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, on 6 October 2016.

    A second assault is alleged to have taken place at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, on 24 October 2014.

    He has been bailed to appear at Oxford magistrates' court on 10 October.
