  2. Floating bridge service start delayed

    A replacement for the Cowes Floating Bridge won't enter service until mid-May.

    The new floating bridge had been expected to start running from next week.

    Isle of Wight Council has asked Islanders to suggest a name for the new chain ferry, with a petition to call it Floaty Mcfloatface gathering more that 2,800 signatures.

    The council said it will be named after the general election.

  3. Public meetings to discuss Welborne development get underway

    A series of Community Action Team (CAT) Meetings to discuss the proposed major housing development in Welborne start tonight.

    Up to 6,000 new homes are planned on 1,000 acres (400 hectares) of land between Southampton and Portsmouth close to the M27.

    Fareham Borough Council is holding the first meeting at Ferneham Hall starting at 19:00 BST.

  4. Dorset man, 81, charged in Lincoln Cathedral school abuse case

    An 81-year-old man has been charged with historical child sex abuse offences against boys at a former cathedral school in Lincoln.

    The charges follow an ongoing inquiry into allegations dating back to 1958.

    The man, from Dorset, faces six counts of indecent assault on a boy under the age of 14 and two counts of inciting a boy under the age of 14 to commit an act of gross indecency.

    He is due to appear before Lincoln District Magistrates' Court on 8 June.

  6. Cherries announce 'club record' kit deal

    AFC Bournemouth has named Umbro as its new technical kit supplier in a "club record deal".

    Cherries chief executive Neill Blake said the five-year contract would support the club's growth after two seasons in the Premier League.

    The new designs will be unveiled in the summer.

  7. Poole Town play-offs appeal rejected

    Poole Town FC have been told they will not be allowed to take part in this season's play-offs.

    The team were told before Easter that they would not be allowed to compete because Black Gold Stadium did not have 500 seats under cover. 

    The club appealed but have just learned they were unsuccessful.

  8. Police 'unaware' of 'Blue Whale' suicides

    Hampshire police have said they are not aware of any deaths or incidents related to a "suicide game", after a college reported it was linked to two deaths and two "near misses" in the county.

    Peter Symonds College in Winchester issued an alert to parents on Tuesday about the sinister Blue Whale game, later saying the information came from a "reliable source".

    Today the college said the reports were "unsubstantiated", following advice from Hampshire Safeguarding Children's Board.

    The suicide prevention charity Papyrus offers advice to young people and parents on 0800 068 4141.

  9. Faster Navy vessels put through their paces

    The Royal Navy's 1st Patrol Boat Squadron have been in the Solent this week testing their faster vessels which have just undergone a five-year revamp.

    14 P200 RN ships plus 3 coastal forces heritage trust vessels

    All 14 Archer-class vessels sailed in close formation at speeds of more than 20 knots after the refit added 10 knots to their top speed.

  12. Southampton school's cuts plight raised by Alan Whitehead at PMQs

    The plight of Southampton schools has been raised by The Labour MP for Southampton Test, at Prime Minister's Questions (PMQs). 

    Alan Whitehead, said the the city's schools were "in despair" because of cuts to funding.

    He then took the opportunity to invite Theresa May to the city. 

    Prime Minister Theresa May said it was "perfectly possible" she'd soon be in Southampton and that work's ongoing on a new national funding formula.
