City receives homeless grant

Southampton City Council is to receive £400,000 from the government's "rough sleepers' grant" to help people in the city.

The money, given over two years, will help the authority offer 24-hour intensive support, accommodation and crisis intervention services, in conjunction with charity Two Saints.

Southampton City Council

It’s a major frustration that help is on hand to the homeless in Southampton, but is often refused. We aim to use this grant funding to encourage more people – especially those not yet accustomed to life on the streets – to accept the help and turn their lives around.

Poole bike meet cut over 'lack of volunteers'

Poole's long-running motorcycle meet will only run from May to August this year because of a lack of volunteer marshalls.

The Dream Machines event is held every Tuesday evening and in previous years has run for 26 weeks throughout the summer.

Poole Tourism has taken the decision to hold the meet for just 18 weeks in 2017 because paid marshalls are now needed for the self-funding event.

Dream Machines has been running for 15 years but organisers say volunteer numbers have gradually fallen.
