  2. B&B owners raise fears over rehab center plans

    Guest house owners have raised fears over plans to turn a neighbouring B&B into a drug and alcohol rehab centre.

    Dorset County Council is in the process of buying Basil Towers in Weymouth after receiving £620,000 in government funding for the scheme.

    One landlady said she feared guests of the remaining B&Bs may be put off by their new neighbours.

    Police are appealing for help in tracing a man they want to speak to following an assault in Emsworth.

    Hampshire Constabulary says it wants to speak to Karl Gates, 26, after reports of an assault on a 24-year-old woman in Cold Harbour Farm Road early on Sunday.

  6. Council leaders in clean air call

    The leader of Southampton City Council has signed a joint letter to the Prime Minister, along with the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, and the leaders of four other cities, calling for urgent action to improve air quality.

  7. Tribute to 'Isle of Wight surf legend'

    Dozens of surfers formed a circle in Compton Bay on Saturday, in memory of Dave Gray who "died in his sleep" last month at the age of 52.

    Matt Whishaw said: "As well as being a surf legend Dave was lifeguard at Ventnor beach, worked for Ventnor Town Council and was one of the most loved people in Ventnor."

  8. Man dies after New Forest two-bike crash

    A motorcyclist involved in a collision with another bike in the New Forest on Friday has died.

    Two bikers, aged 29 and 48, suffered life-threatening injuries when their vehicles crashed on the B3054 Beaulieu Road - between The Heath roundabout and Hill Top - shortly after 07:00.

    Hampshire Constabulary said Janek Szarzynski, 29, from Fareham, died the same evening.

    The 48-year-old man remains in a critical but stable condition.

  9. Cherries build up for City clash

    AFC Bournemouth says winger Ryan Fraser will be presented with the January player of the month award, ahead of this evening's Premier League match against Manchester City.

  10. Dementia couple 'still in love'

    A Dorset couple are still "head over heels in love" despite not always being able to recognise each other, the Alzheimer's Research UK charity says.

    Chris Warren, 72, and his wife Hilary, 69, were diagnosed with dementia within two years of each other.

    The couple, who married in 1969, now share a room at a care home in Broadstone.

    Their son James said: "Dad only really smiles when he's with Mum... and she won’t always recognise that that’s him. But there is a constant familiarity there.

    "Even if she doesn’t know it’s really him she’ll hold his hand and rest her head on his shoulder."

  11. Woman loses £6,450 to bank card thief

    A man who stole a purse from a supermarket shopper used her bank cards to withdraw £6,450 from cash machines.

    Police have released a CCTV image of a man they want to trace, following the theft in Winchester on 23 January.

    The thief followed the woman from Waitrose in Stockbridge Road to the underground car park where he snatched her purse from her car.

    He then used all seven of her bank cards to withdraw cash from ATMs in Winchester town centre.

  12. The Brook founder Bryn Lewis dies after short illness

    Bryn Lewis who founded of one of Southampton's best known music venues,Tthe Brook, has died following a short illness, the venue has said.

    Mr Lewis took over the Portswood venue in 1995 and transformed the existing pub into a two-tier music venue.

    His long time friend and business partner Dylan will continue to manage The Brook along with Mr Lewis's eldest son, Nick.

    Among the tributes posted on The Brook's Facebook page, Mr Lewis was described as a "true legend of the Southampton live music scene".

  13. Sheep 'killed by dogs' on Hampshire farm

    Three sheep have died after a suspected dog attack on a farm at Kingsclere.

    Police said the "large hounds" were caught on CCTV trying to enter a chicken pen on the farm on Saturday.

    Two of the sheep were later found dead with extensive injuries, while a third apparently died from shock.

    PC Vincent Lane said: "The injuries sustained are among the worst I have seen and I am concerned that the dogs' owners do not appear to have been present throughout the incident."

  14. WATCH: £28m leisure centre takes shape

    A roof has been put on the new £28m leisure centre, due to open in late 2017 or early 2018 at Fleming Park in Eastleigh.

    The scheme will include a larger pool and expanded gym facilities, while the current centre - built in the 1970s - will be demolished.

  15. Guest house earmarked for rehab centre

    A Weymouth guest house is to be converted into a rehabilitation centre for people with drug and alcohol problems if planning permission is agreed.

    Dorset County Council has been given funding to buy and convert Basil Towers in Abbotsbury Road into a residential detox centre. 

    Public Health England (PHE) has awarded £620,000 for the facility which will accommodate up to six people.
