  2. Trio to appear in court after bar 'glassing'

    Three people are due to appear at court in connection with a reported affray after a man was reportedly glassed and a woman punched in a Bournemouth bar.

    Dorset Police say the alleged attack, at Felson’s Bar on Old Christchurch Road at around 23:40 BST on 26 March, caused a man to have a small bleed on the brain, which was not life threatening. The woman suffered a facial injury.

    A 22-year-old Bournemouth woman, a 30-year-old man from Manchester and a 22-year-old Derbyshire woman have been issued with a postal notice to appear at Poole Magistrates’ Court on 26 October 2018 charged with affray, assaulting a police constable, criminal damage and possessing a class B drug. A 28-year-old man from Cheshire who was arrested on suspicion of affray in connection with the incident has now been released without charge.

  4. Man stabbed by group in Gosport

    A man has been left in a serious condition in hospital after being stabbed in Gosport yesterday evening.

    The 22-year-old man was assaulted by a group described as young men or teenage boys at around 21:00 BST on Barnfield Close in the town.

    Hampshire Police said his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

  5. Life sentence for Sherborne armed robber

    A man who robbed a convenience store while brandishing a knife has been given a life sentence.

    Dion Kevin Levy, 40, admitted a charge of robbery and possessing a bladed article in a public place at Taunton Crown Court on Monday 8 October 2018 after stealing £757.65 from the Spar Store in Yetminster.

    He jumped over the counter and was seen by a member of staff with a knife, before demanding money and grabbed the till drawer before leaving the shop.

    Levy was arrested by officers from Avon and Somerset Police in Yeovil the following day.

    He was also sentenced for a further robbery and an offence of possessing a firearm with intent relating to an incident at Martock Post Office in Somerset on 4 January 2018 and was handed a life sentence.

    Levy was told he would have to serve a minimum jail term of seven years before being eligible for parole.

  7. South West train stations to get £90m of improvements

    Improvements totalling £90m are to be made at train stations across the South West.

    South Western Railway said the work would be carried out at locations including Axminster and Honiton (pictured) in Devon, and Weymouth and Dorchester in Dorset.

    Improvements would include some new and refurbished trains, better wi-fi coverage, new benches at stations, new ticket barriers and more parking, staff said.

    South Western Railway (SWR) has services from London to Exeter, via Honiton and Salisbury.

  10. Endangered baby zebra born at Marwell Zoo

    An endangered Grevy's zebra has been born at Marwell Zoo in Hampshire.

    Mother Imogen gave birth to the female foal in the early hours of Friday.

    Keepers say both mother and the yet-to-be-named foal are doing very well.

    The latest arrival takes the total number of Grevy’s zebra at the zoo to eight and is the first foal to be sired by resident stallion Fonzy.

    In the late 1970s there were 15,000 Grevy’s zebra in the wild. Today there are estimated to be around 2,800 remaining.

  11. Nigel Farage walkabout in Christchurch

    The A352 has re-opened after being closed earlier because of a collision between a Warrior tank and a Motorbike.

    The motorcyclist was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

    Chris de Burgh has announced he is to play the Bournemouth International Centre as part of his 70th birthday tour.

    It's one of only 8 UK dates he'll be playing in autumn 2019.
