    Gosport sailor Alex Thomson walks without a harness, as a wave washes over his boat in the Southern Ocean.

    Thomson, who has a slender lead in the solo Vendee Globe race, was filmed yesterday by a TV crew on a French Navy helicopter.

  4. Titanic replica set for Chinese theme park

    Here's an artist's impression of what the full-size replica of the Titanic, set to be the main attraction at a Chinese theme-park.

    It will feature an interior reflecting some of the grandeur of the Belfast-built original, including a ballroom, theatre, swimming pool and first-class cabins - with the addition of wi-fi - and will be the centrepiece of a theme park in a rural area of Sichuan province.

  5. BreakingRemains confirmed as those of missing Isobel Munro

    A woman's remains discovered near a recreation ground in Hampshire have been confirmed as being those of missing Christchurch woman Isobel Munro. 

    Police cordoned off an area of woodland in Barton-on-Sea after the remains were discovered by a member of the public on Tuesday morning.

    Ms Munro was reported as missing in April 2016. Police said her death was currently being treated as unexplained.

  7. South West Trains sorry for delays for Saints fans after Arsenal match

    South West Trains has apologised to Southampton fans who were delayed getting home from last night's EFL quarter final fixture at the Emirates Stadium.

    Traffic is very slow on the M27 westbound from M275, Portsbridge Roundabout to J11, A27 (Fareham), because of anearlier accident.

    There is songestion on the M275 to A3, Rudmore Roundabout and on the A27 to the A3(M) junction.  

  9. Full-size replica of Titanic 'under construction' in China

    Construction of the world's first full-size replica of the Titanic, to be used as a lakeside tourist attraction, has begun in China, AFP has reported.

    State media said the 269-metre (883-foot) long, 28-metre wide ship will be docked permanently on a reservoir in a rural area of Sichuan province. 

    A keel-laying ceremony was held on Wednesday, attended by former British government minister and EU trade commissioner Peter Mandelson.

    The ill-fated liner sank on its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York in 1912, killing more than 1,500 people - a third of whom came from the Hampshire city.

  11. Southampton to play Liverpool in EFL Cup semi finals

    Southampton, comfortable winners over Arsenal on Wednesday, will host in-form Liverpool at St Mary's, before the return leg at Anfield.

    The two-legged semi-final ties will be played in the weeks commencing 9 and 23 January 2017.

    Liverpool, winners of the competition a record eight times and finalists in 2016, saw off Leeds on Tuesday with a 2-0 win at Anfield.

  13. Eastleigh look set to appoint Allen

    No shortage of news coming out of Eastleigh Football Club over the last 24 hours.

    First there was the news of manager Ronnie Moore's departure late on Wednesday followed shortly after by chairman Stewart Donald revealing to BBC Radio Solent he was already requesting permission to speak to a potential successor.

    Now it appears Donald has got the man he wanted with League Two club Barnet confirming in the last hour they have allowed their manager Martin Allen to depart and join Eastleigh.

    However, Eastleigh themselves are yet to confirm his appointment.

  14. Pre-Christmas Southern Railway strike dates changed

    The RMT has changed strike dates on Southern Railway, moving a walkout up to Christmas Eve to earlier in the week. 

    Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union are embroiled in a bitter dispute over changes to the role of guards and have launched a series of strikes which have disrupted services. 

    They were due to stop work for three days from December 22, but this has been changed to a 48-hour stoppage from the 19th.

  15. Lorry crash shuts M27 near Portsmouth

    The M27 has been closed westbound between J12, M275 (Portsmouth) and J11, A27 (Fareham), because of an accident involving lorry and several cars.

  16. Man's body found in water

    A man's body has been recovered from the water in Poole Harbour by emergency services. 

    Police said the man was found close to Salterns Marina shortly after 14:15 GMT on Wednesday. 

    They have yet to establish the man's identity. 

    Police are treating the death as non-suspicious.

  17. Landmark turned red for World Aids Day

    The lights on the city centre clock in Southampton will turn red later to mark World Aids Day. 

    The landmark is expected to be lit red from about 16:15 GMT.
