  3. Speedway play-off cancelled

    Poole Pirates say tonight's scheduled second leg play-off tie at Wolverhampton has been postponed and will now be staged on Wednesday 28 September.

    The Monmore Green circuit was declared waterlogged at lunchtime and with the weather forecast far more encouraging for Wednesday, the decision was made to put the meeting back 48 hours.

    The Pirates hold a 12-point lead from the first leg and are looking to progress to the finals to keep the prospects of a fourth successive Elite league title alive.

  4. Two injured in street brawl

    Two men were injured in a fight in Bournemouth in the early hours of Sunday.

    Police said it was understood two groups of men were involved in an altercation near the underpass in Wellington Road between 02:00 and 02:30.

    A 21-year-old man from Bournemouth and a 28-year-old an from Eastleigh were treated for facial injuries, the 28-year-old also suffered a fractured hand.

    Five men from Bournemouth, aged between 22 and 27, have been arrested and bailed.

    A 27-year-old is also due before magistrates charged with failing to provide a breath sample.

  6. Flats at former hotel will all be social housing

    Apartments planned for a former hotel site in Poole will now all be made available to people on the housing register.

    Initially Arndale Court Hotel in Wimborne Road was due to be replaced with 21 apartments and six holiday flats.

    New proposals agreed by Poole council mean all 27 apartments will be social housing.

  7. Arrest after taxi knife robbery appeal

    A man has been arrested following a CCTV appeal after an alleged knifepoint robbery on a taxi driver in Bournemouth.

    The incident happened in Lawford Road in the early hours of Tuesday 20 September.

    Dorset Police said a 32-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of robbery.

  8. Travel: M3 crash update

    Highways England say the obstruction being caused by the crash on the M3 is expected to be cleared between 17:00 and 17:15.

    There are currently delays of about 30 minutes following the collision involving three vehicles on the westbound carriageway.

    One lane remains closed between junctions 8 and 9.

  11. Police cars damaged in Weymouth pursuit

    Two police cars were damaged during a pursuit which ended near Chafey's roundabout, Weymouth, this afternoon.

    The incident began at about 12:50 BST when officers spotted a suspicious vehicle on Portland Beach Road, Dorset Police said.

    The vehicle failed to stop when requested and carried on for about six miles before colliding with a Mini in Weymouth Way.

    The vehicle was abandoned and a 22-year-old Liverpool man was arrested a short time later.

    Two police officers were slightly injured and the Mini driver was treated for shock.

  13. Poole speedway event postponed

    Tonight's Elite league semi-final between Wolverhampton Wolves and Poole Pirates has been put back by 48 hours after persistent rain in the West Midlands.

    The second leg will now take place on Wednesday at 19:30 BST.

  14. Five months on and still missing

    Dorset Police has renewed an appeal for information about missing Christchurch woman Isobel Munro, whose 42nd birthday is today.

    Ms Munro, who has learning difficulties and is profoundly deaf, was last seen on 11 April when she left home in a taxi.

    Her brother Mark said the family was "desperate" desperate to find out what had happened to her.

    In May, police officers and volunteers searched woods in Highcliffe but no trace was found.

  15. Songs of Praise comes to Romsey

    Romsey Abbey is to host recordings for BBC One's Songs of Praise on 14 and 15 October.

    The programme is inviting people to apply for free tickets to watch either the recordings or the rehearsal on 5 October.

    The deadline for ticket applications is tomorrow at midnight.

  16. 'He did not inform us'

    Portsmouth Labour party says this morning's announcement by Councillor John Ferrett that he was resigning from Labour because of Jeremy Corbyn's leadership, was a surprise.

    Branch chair Sion Reynolds said it was "regrettable" that the party was not informed before the councillor made the announcement live on BBC Radio Solent.

  17. Alien invasion on Portland

    Portland was invaded by spinning sculptures as part of the Inside Out Dorset festival which ended on Sunday.

    Artist Ray Lee set up his work  "Chorus" in a field at New Ground as part of the ten-day arts festival, which boasted "extraordinary events in extraordinary places".
