  2. Harlow estate named in memory of fallen WW1 brothers

    A new council housing development in Harlow named in memory of three brothers killed during WW1 has been unveiled today.

    Cyril, Francis and Thomas Riley, whose family ran a greengrocer's and a post office in Burnt Mill, lost their lives during the conflict more than 100 years ago. 

    The estate is the second in recent weeks to be named after fallen Harlow soldiers.

  3. Forensic investigations carried out after Clacton murder

    Forensic investigations of a property where the body of a woman was found earlier today are still being carried out, police say.

    A post mortem examination has not yet taken place, but detectives believe the woman - who was in her 50s - was killed.

    The force is also carrying out house-to-house enquiries and is examining CCTV footage from nearby properties.

    Three men were arrested after the vehicle came to a crashing halt on Somnes Avenue. 

  5. Clacton murder: Police 'urgently' looking for man

    Detectives investigating the murder of a woman in Clacton say they're urgently trying to find a 25-year-old man, Scott Hilling.

    He's 5ft 6in (1.67m) tall with short brown hair, a goatee beard and a moustache.

    Police say he has a tattoo of the word "Hillen" on his neck and a tattoo of a cross on his left hand. Anyone who sees him is advised not to approach him and to call police immediately.

  6. Clacton murder: Woman in her 50s found dead

    Essex Police says the body of a woman in her 50s was found at a property in Old Road, Clacton (pictured), at 10:50 this morning.

    Officers were called following reports of concern for the welfare of a resident, a police spokesman said.

    The force has started a murder investigation and detectives are urgently trying to find Scott Hilling, 25.

  10. Police officer attacked in Clacton disturbance

    Three men have been arrested after a police officer was assaulted in Clacton this morning.

    Essex Police says it was contacted in the early hours with reports of a large disturbance in Colne Road. 

    When a male police constable arrived he was attacked causing a head injury. Three local men aged 27, 23 and 19 were arrested and taken into custody for questioning.

  11. Emergency services attend M11 lorry crash

    Essex Fire and Rescue says it is sending four fire crews to deal with a crash between two lorries on the London-bound M11

    One lane is currently closed between J7 for Harlow and J6 for the M25.

    The service says paramedics and police are also attending.

    A delivery driver has been threatened with a knife and robbed in Stanford-le-Hope.

    Essex Police says the victim was approached by a man in Colman Close at about 12:45 yesterday afternoon who made him open his van. 

    The suspect stole a number of parcels before running away. He is described as mixed race, aged between 18 and 23, with dark stubble.

  16. Brother and sister jailed after burgling spree

    A brother and sister from Colchester have been jailed after a series of burglaries across five counties earlier this year.

    Rosanna and George Ruffell, both from Barrack Street, were sentenced at Chelmsford Crown Court yesterday after being found guilty of conspiracy to commit burglary with intent to steal between April and June. 

    • Rosanna Ruffell, 23, jailed for two years and six months
    • George Ruffell, 18, jailed for four years and three months
    • A 16-year-old boy - who can't be named becuase of his age - given a youth rehabilitation order
