  1. 'Actions of a few impacted on many'

    More than 100 people who left their cars on the A30 to seek shelter at a pub in Cornwall were told to pick up their vehicles "as soon as possible" by Highways England after gritters and recovery teams worked through the night.

    Councillor Geoff Brown, who handles transport at Cornwall Council, said "the actions of a few impacted on many" after abandoned cars blocked emergency services, delaying the clear-up operation.

    Two stranded buses carrying school children were among those rescued on Thursday night, he said.

  2. A38 remains closed due to lorry blocking road

    • The A38 in the Glynn Valley remains closed due to a lorry blocking the road. The road is closed between Bodmin and Dobwalls. It's expected to remain closed until 13:00
    • On the A38 eastbound from A30 to A390 (Twelvewoods Roundabout) an accident involving a lorry and fuel spillage is causing disruption
    • Police are asking people to return to abandoned cars on the A30
    • On the A39 between Fraddon and Camelford there are poor driving conditions with reports of stranded vehicles
    • Also on the A39 traffic is at a standstill due to the snow between Winnards Perch and Wadebridge
    • Between Davidstow and Kennards House on the A395 there are hazardous driving conditions and slow traffic
    • Very poor conditions on the A390 between Dobwalls and St Blazey
    • There are also hazardous driving conditions in and out of Bodmin, Newquay, and Launceston on the A388
    • Newquay Airport is closed until 12:00 due to the heavy snowfall. Flights from Land's End to St Mary's Airport have resumed however there is just over a two hour delay
    • Flights to / from Bristol Airport have been suspended as well. Passengers should check the status of their flight before travelling
  3. 'Delay journeys to the moors'

    With nearly 150 schools closed across Devon, a councillor is warning against visiting the moors.

    “We ask them to delay their journey, certainly for today, while the road conditions could put them at risk of becoming stuck," Councillor Stuart Hughes said.

    "Also, with our teams working across the high ground, it’s important that their work is not hampered.

    "If people’s journeys are necessary, we ask that they keep to the primary A roads as much as possible, rather than risk untreated lanes and minor roads. And to travel with care,” he added.

  4. Devon snow and ice disruption: Minor roads to avoid

    Many of Devon's minor roads remain icy, as well as routes over Dartmoor and Exmoor. Devon County Council is warning you about travelling on the following:

    • The B3192, Teignmouth to Ashcombe remains closed, due to abandoned vehicles

    • On the B3212, Longdown to Culver, there are abandoned vehicles, but cars are passing with care

    • Snow ploughs and blowers are operating on the B3358 at Simonsbath around the Devon-Somerset border

    • On Dartmoor, the A382 Moretonhampstead to Princetown route has been ploughed and is being gritted again

    • The Teign Valley Road, B3193, is currently being gritted

  5. A38: Oil spill 'delaying' road re-opening

    The A38 in Cornwall is still closed in both directions near Liskeard, after a crash involving a HGV earlier.

  6. Snow clearing but 'Dartmoor's roads still problematic'

    Snow on Dartmoor's roads is still proving a problem for highways staff, a council manager says.

    Heavy snowfall and ice have led to major disruption across Devon and Cornwall.

    "Lots of our roads on the lower routes are now clear and running quite nicely," Devon County Council Highways Control Centre manager Hugh Griffith said.

    "We are getting some reporting of flooding in areas, so we're trying to get those cleared up before we get colder tonight.

    "The high routes, and the routes over the moors are looking problematic because of drifting snow. So we're clearing snow and then it's coming back in on us," Mr Griffin added.

  7. Snow hits Cornwall bin collections

    Waste collections in the former Caradon and North Cornwall areas have been suspended due to the weather, Cornwall Council tweets.

    There are also some issues with collections in the former Restormel area, the council adds.

    Nearly 150 Devon schools are closed or partially closed today due to the wintry conditions.

    Around 14cms of snow fell in parts of Devon overnight.

    The county remains on a yellow weather alert for snow and ice until 1 o'clock this lunchtime.
