Man builds £600 Brexit stockpile
East Midlands Today
A man from Leicestershire has stockpiled almost two months of food over fears about panic-buying in the event of a no deal Brexit.
David Ivory, from Wymeswold, is vegan and has been buying additional items over the past six months.
He estimates by the end of March he'll have spent about £600 on everything from frozen fruit to oat milk, tinned vegetables and coffee.
BBCCopyright: BBC
He said: "I started in October just buying a few extra bits and pieces and gradually we've bought more and more as we approach D-Day.
"It just seemed like a sensible insurance policy to be prepared."
The Department for Exiting the European Union has said it has no plans to stockpile food and people should not do so either.
A spokesperson said: "The UK has a strong level of food security built upon a diverse range of sources including strong domestic production and imports from third countries. This will continue to be the case whether we leave the EU with or without a deal."
