  11. Council invests in recycling education

    Kit Sandeman

    Local Democracy Reporter

Nottinghamshire County Council is set to invest in education on recycling in the hope of reducing contamination.

Waste sent for recycling can often be rejected if it's contaminated, either by food or by being mixed with goods which can't be recycled.

This means it frequently has to be sent to a landfill site, rather than being recycled and turned into something else.

    Inside a recycle bin

In recent years, the rates of contamination have been going up across the county, so the Conservative-led council has agreed a £100,000 project to help inform people about what can and can't be recycled.

As part of the education drive, the council plans to commission training for bin collectors, as well as a wider publicity campaign aimed at the public.
