    Gavin Bevis

    BBC News

The RSPCA said the package was discovered by a dog walker in Hardwick Lane on Tuesday.

    Mice in tub

Inspector Kristy Ludlam said she believed there were three generations of mice cramped inside the small container, including ten babies and some that were only a day old.

She said: "I suspect someone had these mice as pets and as they bred they decided they couldn’t cope. But instead of seeking help they dumped them at the side of a road which is so callous as they could have easily have suffered a lingering death.”

Thankfully all the mice have survived and are now being put up for adoption.
