  8. Burns child names police puppy

    A Nottinghamshire police puppy has been named Billy by a child visiting the burns unit at the Queen's Medical Centre.

    The force received more than 70 name suggestions for the spaniel, including Biscuit, Fraggle, Pouncer, Sherlock and Tiddles but the Dog Section felt Billy suited him perfectly.

    The puppy was taken back to the QMC today and his name was announced to the children’s ward.

  9. Armed police leave Arnold

    Police say an incident involving armed response officers in Arnold has now come to an end.

    Officers were called to Jacobs Court at about 12:15 over reports a person was armed with a weapon.

    A 25-year-old man has been detained under the Mental Health Act.

    Residents who were evacuated earlier have now been told they can return to their homes and nearby roads have been reopened.

  12. Fire service assist police in city centre

    Firefighters have joined police at the Arndale Centre car park in Nottingham where several surrounding roads are closed.

    Crews from Highfields and London Road are assisting police, who said there was "concern for safety".

    The roads closed are Maid Marian Way, Castle Gate, Canal Street and Angel Row. Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service has advised people to "avoid the area at this time if possible".

  14. Police evacuation 'incredibly scary'

    A woman has told me it was "incredibly scary" when she was evacuated from her flat in Arnold.

    She told me she was carrying her three-year-old nephew and covered his eyes so he wouldn't be scared.

    Another woman is out in her dressing gown as she had been asleep when the evacuation began. She doesn't know when she'll be able to go back into her home.
