  8. Women's psychiatric intensive care unit to open

    A new specialist psychiatric intensive care unit is to open at Glenfield Hospital in Leicester this month.

    Griffin ward will have six bedrooms and will help women with acute mental health problems.

    It will also allow patients to stay closer to home.

    Rebecca Dennis, 21, who has anorexia, depression and obsessive compulsive personality disorder, has had to travel across the country for treatment for seven years.

    She said: "Because of the lack of beds in my local area, I have had to go out of area to receive treatments."

  10. Shot fired at Derbyshire restaurant

    Police are investigating after an air gun was fired into a restaurant in Shirebrook.

    The pellet was shot through the door of The Two Flags in Market Street and hit a wall on Sunday 1 October.

    One person was sat in the restaurant at the time but was not injured. Police have appealed for witnesses.

  12. A1 crash: Two dead and man and a woman arrested

    Lincolnshire Police has just released more details about those involved in a fatal crash on the A1 in Lincolnshire at around 01.00 this morning.

    Officers say two people were killed in the crash which involved a car and a lorry. A man aged 41 and a woman aged 36 who were in the lorry were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

    The police say the two arrested people remain in custody and they are still in the process of informing family members of the two people who died.

    It's expected more details about the victims will be released once all the relatives have been informed.

    The A1 northbound near Colsterworth, where the accident happened, has been closed for most of the day, but is now fully reopen.

  15. Speeding M1 driver hit with massive fine

    A driver has had to fork out more than £1,000 after being caught driving at 91mph on the M1.

    A speed camera snapped the 39-year-old man speeding along the northbound carriageway near Tibshelf in a Kia Sportage when the variable limit had been reduced to 60mph due to a lane closure.

    The driver, from Castle Donington, was fined £876 plus costs and banned from getting behind the wheel for a week.

  16. Man jailed after head-on death crash

    A 23-year-old man has been jailed after crashing head-on into a car while overtaking on a blind bend, killing the other driver.

    Ashley Lakin admitted causing the death by dangerous driving of Amy Young near Wymeswold in the early hours of 4 August last year.

    At Nottingham Crown Court earlier Lakin, of Burrough Street, Kegworth, was jailed for four years and banned for driving for five years.

    He also admitted possession of cannabis.

    Speaking after the sentencing, Sgt Ash Thornton said: "His manoeuvre was dangerous and unnecessary and it tragically resulted in a head-on collision with the vehicle being driven by Amy Young in the opposite direction.

    "This has obviously devastated Amy’s family who have been very patient throughout a lengthy investigation."
