  3. Multi-million pound plans to expand Derby's train station

    Plans for a £200m expansion to Derby railway station have been submitted to the city council.

    Network Rail wants a new platform on the Pride Park side of the station, resulting in six 'through' platforms.

    It's part of a revamp of the Midland Mainline which runs between Derby and London and Sheffield.

    They hope expanding will help ease congestion as well as increase capacity.

  5. Calls for more custody visitors

    Police want more people in Derbyshire to be custody visitors

    It's a voluntary role and it means speaking to detainees at police stations across the county.

    Volunteers check they're okay and getting everything they're entitled to while in police custody.

  7. Hospital traffic plans revealed

    Work is currently underway to improve traffic in and around the Royal Derby Hospital.

    One way system

    New traffic lights are being put in place and a one-way system is being introduced on the hospital loop road.

    It's hoped the changes will improve traffic flow and reduce delays.

    The Moorways swimming pool closed in January because of budget cuts when the city council decided it was too expensive to run.

    The site will get a new 50m swimming pool and a proposed plan will look at other opportunities for the rest of the building, the council said.


    Meanwhile, Derby Assembly Rooms, which opened in 1977, was badly damaged in a huge blaze that broke out in its roof car park in 2014.

    The council's city centre masterplan for 2030 is for a performance venue to replace the Assembly Rooms but the cabinet has yet to make a final decision on what exactly this will be.

  10. Derby man wanted over offences

    Derbyshire Police has issued a picture of Craig Shaw, from Derby. They want to speak to him over two alleged offences including burglary and possession with intent to supply drugs. 

    Mr Shaw also has connections to Nottingham, the force said.

  15. Search for Derbyshire's next chief constable

    The search is on for a new recruit to become Derbyshire's next Chief Constable. 

    Yesterday, Police and Crime Commissioner Hardyl Dhindsa began a recruitment campaign after current Chief Constable Mick Creedon (pictured) announced he was stepping down after 10 years.

  16. Derbyshire abandon Samuels interest

    Derbyshire County Cricket Club  have confirmed  they are no longer interested in signing West Indies all-rounder Marlon Samuels.

    Samuels has played  71 Tests and 238 limited-overs internationals  and was recently  cleared to bowl  after serving a 12-month ban for an illegal action.

  17. Tree roots 'moved in the drive' in Storm Doris

    Sue Tomkins, whose house was damaged when Storm Doris blew over a tree, said the tree had "never moved" before.

    "I saw the actual roots moving in the drive and all the slabs were coming up," she said.
