Radio Derby myth busts another legend tale

Like the tale of Romeo and Juliet it's a story about two young lovers who couldn't be together.

Only it's set in the Peak District village of Eyam rather than Italy.

Folklore has it that Emma Sidall and Rowland Toree were split up because there was a strict rule stopping people going in and out of the village during the time of the plague.

'All coats were gone within the first day'

Derby commemorates Holocaust Memorial Day

Events are being held across Derby to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.

It was established in 2001 to remember victims of genocides.

Derbyshire Police are reminding people going to tonight's match between Derby and Leicester to avoid trouble, and to enjoy the game.

Trio arrested after 'large cannabis factory' discovery

Three men have been arrested after a "large cannabis factory" was discovered in Burton. 

About 700 plants were found at a property in the Borough Road area.

Police were called at about 18:30 on Wednesday, after a member of the public was concerned about the suspicious activity at the property.

Three men were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply and cultivation of cannabis. 

Two are from Derbyshire and one from Staffordshire. The trio have been released on bail.

Kieran Smith wrote: "Devastating news. Radio isn't just a bit of background noise, its a friend. It becomes part of our life and the presenters are like a friend in our home, at work or in the car. Campaigners in Sandiacre want the route of HS2 shifted to preserve a local beauty spot.

The tracks in the current plan cross "The Horse Field" beside the Erewash Canal on a high level viaduct.

LED street lights for the whole county

Work to switch to new-style street lights across Derbyshire is continuing to roll out across the county.

More than 68,000 lights will eventually have their current lights exchanged for LED fittings.

The county council will also be replacing more than 22,000 older lamp posts at the same time.  

'Too frightened to return to Italy'

The couple said the ordeal had left them too frightened to return to Italy and they had 'lost everything' in the earthquake.

Mr Fletcher said: "We took photos as the snow was falling and it was a fun thing, but when you can't look out of your front window and see daylight because of the snow, it's frightening."

The quake's impact brought down a barn, killing their pet dog, and left a hole in their roof.

Derby family were trapped in Italy earthquake

A family from Derby, who were trapped inside their home in Italy after an earthquake have spoke to us about their ordeal. 

Peter and Clair Fletcher were stuck for four days without electricity, after their home was hit by several earthquakes and over six feet of snow.
