Ashbourne man charged with firearm offences

A 67-year-old man from Ashbourne's been charged with a series of firearms offences.

John Spencer Booth was arrested in Birmingham on Monday.

Officers recovered 10 sawn-off shotguns and more than 200 rounds of ammunition.  

He will appear at Brimingham Crown Court on 15 February.

Bomb disposal experts called to five schools last year

It's emerged five schools in Derbyshire called in army bomb disposal experts between October and December last year, to deal with a chemical alert. 

The government warned them about a potentially volatile chemical that can be found in school labs and needs to be stored carefully. 

It's disposed of with a controlled explosion.

M1 crash leaves woman with serious injuries

A woman's in hospital with serious injuries this afternoon after a major crash on the M1 in Derbyshire.

Part of the motorway was shut for several hours on the southbound stretch between Junction 28 and 29, which is now reopen.

 A car and a van were involved in the collision, and two people were taken to hospital.

Ms Cox said: "I am not sure where he is looking but we are having maximum disruption."

Ms Walker said: "They have shut the mainstream primary schools for as many weeks, how would anyone get to work?

The mothers of children at two special schools in Derby are urging the city council to bring the pay dispute with teaching assistants to an end. 

They told Radio Derby the ongoing strike action is affecting their sons and their families. 

In a statement to head teachers, council Leader Ranjit Banwait said the action was having minimal impact.

Visually-impaired Audrey reaches 102

Yes it's true - she is 102 and looks amazing, doesn't she?

Audrey Salt from Stanley is visually impaired but other than that she's in good health. 

She has three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. 

Audrey told us she couldn't believe it when she met her husband as his surname was Salt and her maiden name was Pepper!...I think they were meant to be.

She also told Radio Derby that not eating frozen food could be the secret to her reaching 102.

Friends of Tom Webb calling for an end to knife crime

Friends of Tom Webb, who was stabbed to death in Derby City Centre a year ago today, will be handing out leaflets calling for an end to knife crime. 

They will be in St Peter's Street where the 22-year-old was attacked.

In July, 16-year-old Haris Mohammed was detained for a minimum of 14 years for Tom's murder.

He'd been working with a colleague on the building when he fell from a height.

An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive is continuing.

300 jobs could go at Alliance Healthcare

The Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers has said up to 300 jobs could go at Alliance Healthcare in South Normanton.

The firm said it needs to make improvements in the supply chain and can't confirm exactly how many jobs could go until consultation with staff has finished.
