Highways England says the A38 northbound will be closed near the M1 J28 throughout this evening while work takes place to repair damage to the surface caused by the lorry fire. A diversion is in place.

A woman from Derby who lost her father just nine weeks ago has set up a support group for people who have also lost loved ones.

Police have confirmed there were no injuries in the lorry fire on the A38.

RSPCA: No idea who dumped dogs

Nicola Johnson from the RSPCA says they have few clues on who might have dumped the two French Bulldogs in Stapenhill Park.

She said: “It is obvious from the state of the dogs that they have been suffering for some time.

"Their skin conditions and fur loss are so severe that it is difficult to say for certain what colour the dogs are."

Dogs abandoned in park

The RSPCA says two French Bulldogs that were abandoned in a park in Burton were left in a "despicable" condition. 

Both animals, which have been named Keith and Albert, had a severe skin condition and overgrown claws.

A firearm was allegedly used at a house in Chesterfield early this morning, police have said.

Officers were called to Lucas Road at about 03:00 to reports of gun shots.

They said it was an isolated incident but asked anyone with information to come forward.

Rolls-Royce to cut 800 jobs

Rolls-Royce will cut around 800 jobs worldwide after announcing plans to slash costs in its marine business.

The engine maker said it was too early to say where the job cuts would fall.

Its marine business employs 4,800 people globally with around 400 in the UK.

They're trying to put out the flames and are advising people to avoid the area.

Some drivers say they've been stuck on the road for hours.

Shoppers asked to donate to food banks

Residents are being urged to support food banks this Christmas by donating an item of food on their shopping list.

The city council has set up more than 40 food donation points at libraries, offices and other buildings to tackle poverty.

Police are investigating after a residents in part of Chesterfield reported hearing a gun shot in the early hours of this morning.
