Holiday tragedy mother is coming home

A Derby mother who suffered a brain haemorrhage while swimming on holiday in Greece is being flown home today.

Fugitive burglar hands himself in

A man who absconded from Sudbury open prison in Derbyshire has handed himself in.

Dementia calendar ready to go

A calendar's been designed by a woman from the Peak District with dementia to help others with the condition. 

Val Horncastle died last year but the project's been taken on by her husband of 51 years, Keith.

A local arts project which has been working with isolated communities in Derby is due to perform at Quad next week.

People from the Roma and Muslim communities, the elderly, young offenders and some from a mining community were paired with rappers, songwriters and poets to capture their lives and stories through music.

Communities brought 'closer together'

A Derby music project has brought isolated communities in the city closer together, organisers say.

Run by local musician, Alex Blood, Lives and Lyrics saw poets and songwriters paired with marginalised or isolated communities to create songs and capture the stories of those involved.

Raising money for more StarDiscs

Wirksworth's StarDisc is currently the only one in the UK - but that could be about to change. 

Creator Aiden Shingler says the StarDisc "is a  21st-Century stone circle and celestial amphitheatre".

He's now trying to raise £5,000 through a crowdfunding page to spread "the mystery and magic of the stars", by creating up to nine new Star Discs across the UK.   

Deaf student makes history at graduation

Somia Rashid has becomes the first student to give the vote of thanks at a graduation ceremony, at the University of Derby, in British Sign Language.

She achieved a 2:1 in health and social care.

Volunteers for Derbyshire Refugee Solidarity are creating winter packs of clothes to send to children.

A course they run called "Tackling Terrorism Though Women" has had some success in preventing women from the city travelling to Syria to join the so called Islamic State.

One woman from the city has been told us how she was radicalised online, by the so-called Islamic State.
