We all know how well Derby's Andrew Smyth did in The Great British Bake Off this year.

But it was arguably the sister of a Derbyshire farm owner who stole the nation's hearts.

Cake whisperer Val Stones is the sister of Steve Croots, who owns Croots Farm near Duffield.

She's been at the farm cooking up a new range of tasty treats which will be sold there.

Facebook

We've had a few comments on our Facebook page following the news most of Amber Valley's CCTV cameras are to be scrapped.

Pam Beasley said: "Well this is stupid, if they recording little or no crime then obviously they are doing their job right? If people know that some are being switched off won't crime rise again?"

Remaining cameras to be upgraded

Wesley Mallin

Reporter, BBC Radio Derby

The remaining 12 council-run CCTV cameras operating at the busiest points in town centres across Amber Valley will now be upgraded.

The money saved by scrapping the rest will go back into the capital pot for vehicles and buildings.

The borough council also rejected the argument that crime will rise due to the deterrent effect being lost.

Cameras switched off to save money

Khia Lewis-Todd

BBC Local Live

Amber Valley Borough Council says the cuts will save £250,000 in upgrade costs and £50,000 a year.

The plan was opposed by the town councils of Heanor, Ripley, Alfreton and Belper - who said the cameras acted as a deterrent.
