Police are advising people that the Chesterfield v Sheff Utd fixture on Sunday is sold out for Blades fans.

Supt Jim Allen, who is the police match commander for the fixture, said: “We would urge fans not to travel as there will be no available tickets for our friends visiting from Sheffield."

Derby film-maker picks up two awards

A media production graduate from the University of Derby was a double winner at the Royal Television Society Midlands Awards.

A Girl's Story, made by 24-year-old Yue Liu, highlights the struggle faced by children in China whose parents are forced to leave their home town to find work.

It won Best Factual Film and Best Camera Work.

Tributes for Ripley house fire victim

Neighbours of a man who died in a house fire in Ripley have been paying tribute:

One said: "He was always a chatty bloke, always seemed to be cheerful its really, really sad."

Another said: "He was a character a really nice bloke, its really really sad."

Police have yet to name the man.

Tesco Bank hackers 'will be in touch again'

Dr David Day, a security expert from Derby, has described the theft from Tesco Bank customers as the most serious online attack yet to hit a UK bank. 

Over the weekend 40,000 accounts saw suspicious transactions and money fraudulently withdrawn.

"People's information - once its been leaked out - the bad guys, the scammers, the social engineers, the hackers, they will be in touch again

"Either by phone call or email, all that information which has gone out there they have access to that."

Senior YMCA worker goes missing

A senior member of YMCA Derbyshire's staff has been reported missing to the police. 

Operations manager Karol Koniarksi hasn't been seen since leaving his home in Walton near Chesterfield yesterday morning.

His colleagues say they're anxious and have appealed for him to get in touch.

Police hunt canal path flasher

A series of flashing incidents at a canal path in Ilkeston have prompted a police investigation.

Several women have complained of men exposing themselves at an area close to Erewash Canal known by locals as Jonny's Park.

A group of MPs have made an unannounced visit to Sports Direct's Derbyshire headquarters this morning.

Six members of the business, innnovation and skills select committee, who grilled the firm's owner Mike Ashley over working practices earlier this year, have been at its warehouse operation in Shirebrook to see if promised changes are being delivered.

Youlgreave cake: 'The community has come together'

The vicar of All Saints Church has expressed her delight in villagers coming together to bake a replica of Youlgreave.

Reverend Louise Petherham said: "The thing that's impressed me most of all is the way that it's a community project. The community has come together. 

"The original ideas, they rapidly spread from one person to another and I think many people got on board in so many ways."

JCB secures major deal

JCB has announced one of its biggest deals of the year.

The £35m order will see supply 1,200 machines to A-Plant, the UK's largest plant hire firm. 

The order includes a fleet of 13-tonne tracked excavators, which will be made at JCB's factory in Uttoxeter.

Lynn Nolan painstakingly iced the whole cake with a helping hand from fellow residents, who baked the sponge.

The cake will help to raise money for a replacement roof for All Saints Church.

War veteran to get proper send-off

A community say it's rallying around for the funeral of a Long Eaton veteran.

John Kearns, 95, died at the Royal Derby Hospital with no family around him.

He'll be laid to rest at Markeaton Crematorium in Derby tomorrow.

Members of Derby and Derbyshire Ex-Servicemen's Association and Derbyshire Royal British Legion say they'll attend.

'Falling coals' caused Ripley fire

The investigation into a fatal house fire in Ripley has concluded it was probably caused by hot coals falling from an open fire that didn't have a guard in place.

An elderly man died in hospital after being rescued from the blaze, which broke out yesterday morning.

Lily Corten's Harley Davidson ride came after her family asked her what she fancied doing for her 80th birthday.

She said: "It was brilliant. I enjoyed every minute of it, it took me through a lot of places I haven't been for ages, it brought back memories.

"I didn't expect all of this, I said I wanted to ride on a Harley Davidison. I just expected one, not this many. They are lovely - I couldn't have asked for more."

A great-grandmother from Derbyshire celebrated her 80th birthday by riding on the back of a Harley Davidson.

Lily Corten, from Stanton, was accompanied on the ride by 20 motorcyclists from the Birmingham Harley Davidson Chapter.

Concerns electrification could be delayed

Plans to commit to the electrification of the Midland Mainline have been on hold for a while.

Lilian Greenwood, Labour MP for Nottingham South, said: "People in the East Midlands really deserve a decent rail service and we know electrification is key to that. 

"All the contacts in the industries seem very worried that the plans will be further delayed into the 2020s or that it will be cancelled altogether."

Plans to upgrade the line connecting Derby with Sheffield and London have been in the pipeline for a few years.

Crews were called to the house on Lowes Hill after reports of an explosion just before 10:30 yesterday.
