  4. Fuel thefts in Burton

    Two men have been arrested in connection with several fuel thefts in Burton. 

    In the early hours of Monday and Tuesday morning more than 5,000 litres of diesel was taken from fuel tanks on Millers Lane

    Similar thefts saw another 6,000 litres of fuel taken from a property on Wetmore Road.

    We've had plenty of comments on Facebook about there being no official switch-on for Derby's Christmas lights this year.

    Nile Biggs said: "They can't afford it? But they can afford some stupid metal hoops in the middle of the spot which are a total eyesore?"

    Alison Cooke said: "We're probably the only city that isn't having a Christmas light switch on!!"

    A 22-year-old female entrepreneur is about to open a new coffee house in Ilkeston.

  7. Man attacks nine people in Heanor

    A 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting nine people, including two police officers, in Heanor.

    Police said four men and three woman were attacked at Tesco in High Street and a nearby retail park on Sunday morning before he attacked the two officers.

    The man is also alleged to have indecently exposed himself in a car park. He's now been released on bail.

  9. Council agrees to close cafe and creche

    Can you remember earlier on in the week when we told you that the council may shut a cafe and creche at two of its leisure centres?

    The meeting was held yesterday, when councillors confirmed the closure of the facilities. 

    Victoria Park will loose its cafe, and West Park Leisure centre will loose its creche. 

    A spokesperson from the council said: "The results from the meeting were 10 votes to 6 and the closure has now been confirmed."

    The council said it's hoping to use the money saved elsewhere.

  10. Schoolboys fundraise in memory of friend

    Three Derbyshire schoolboys today begin a 34-mile walk in memory of their friend who died last year.

    Ben Graham, George Edwards, Hugh Zwolinski  and Natalya Kumar-Lee went to the same school from 2008-2015.

    In October 2015 Natalya (pictured below) died suddenly from an asthma attack, just before her 12th birthday.

    To mark the first anniversary of her death, the boys will walk from their former school to the top of Kinder Scout, where they all went on a school trip together.

  11. Miniature models come to town

    Next month Long Eaton Town Hall will have all the fairground favourites, but not for you to ride on. 

    Model fans will get the chance to see various miniature sized rides.

    Councillor Mike Wallis, Lead Member for Culture and Leisure, said: “The fairground models are incredibly detailed and when you see them you have to applaud the skill and craftsmanship that has gone into creating them."

  12. Threats in Derby city street

    Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was allegedly seen to be threatening people in a Derby street.

    Officers were called to Pear Tree Road after reports that a man was acting aggressively and in a threatening manner.

    A 33-year-old man has been arrested and remains in police custody.

    It happened at about 21:40 yesterday.

  13. Council installs new weather stations

    Two new high-tech weather stations have been installed to help keep motorists on the county’s roads safer as winter approaches.

    The new camera mounted stations are along the A5132 in Willington and the A619 in Brimington.

    They are now up and running and bring the total number owned by Derbyshire County Council to seven.

  15. Charity tins and till stolen

    Burglars who broke into a garden centre in Hasland made off with two charity tins and a till.

    The offenders smashed a window at Chesterfield Garden Centre, in Mansfield Road.

    The tins and a till were taken in the burglary, which happened between Sunday evening and Monday morning.

  16. Murder victim was 'lovely family man'

    A mother whose son died after suffering head injuries during a night out in Derby describes him as a "lovely family man".

  17. Kinder Scout footpath to be repaired

    Work to repair a damaged stretch of footpath on Kinder Scout is about to begin after supporters donated more than £17,000.

    The British Mountaineering Council launched its nationwide Mend Our Mountains campaign in March.

    The Peak District path was severely eroded below the Ringing Roger rock outcrop.

  18. Four charged over match disorder

    Four men have been charged after disorder at the recent Derby County and Leeds United match.

    Edward McNally has been charged with assaulting a police officer. 

    Michael Barr, Ashley Marriott and James Findlay have been charged with using abusive or threatening words or behaviour.

    All are due to appear before magistrates in Derby on Tuesday.
